Elon Musk\u2019s artificial-intelligence startup xAI has sued a South Carolina man arrested \u2060earlier this year on charges of sexually exploiting minors, alleging he misused the company\u2019s AI system Grok to \u2060create child sexual abuse \u2060material.<\/p>\n

xAI \u200balleged in the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Texas on Tuesday, that Terry Harwood violated the company\u2019s \u2060terms of service. The case is one of the first brought by an AI company against one of its users \u2060for allegedly using an AI system to generate child sexual abuse material.<\/p>\n

Spokespeople for xAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment \u200con Wednesday. The company\u2019s lawsuit against Harwood comes after intense global scrutiny of xAI over allegations that Grok has allowed users to generate non-consensual sexualized deepfakes, or realistic-looking videos fabricated by AI. Contact information for \u200bHarwood, who was arrested in \u200cFebruary, was not immediately available. \u200c<\/p>\n

xAI\u2019s complaint said that the company \u201cenforces its rules against violators through account suspensions, account terminations, and by reporting \u200csuspected child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing + Exploited Children\u201d.<\/p>\n

xAI alleged that Harwood uploaded non-sexual images of adults and minors to Grok and tried to use the system to generate sexually explicit deepfakes based \u2060on them. The complaint also alleged he created non-consensual sexual \u200bimagery of adults.<\/p>\n

The \u200bcompany asked the court for \u200ban unspecified amount of monetary damages and a court \u200border permanently blocking \u200cHarwood from using Grok.<\/p>\n
