Sons of Anarchy star Ryan Hurst was originally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/games\/862089\/god-of-war-kratos-casting-amazone-prime-video\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cast for the role<\/a> in January, with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/god-of-war-recast-kratos-role-ryan-hurst-injured-on-set-1236984409\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deadline<\/a> reporting that four episodes of the God Of War production had been fully completed before he tore a bicep performing a stunt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Production on the show has now been paused, and is eyeing to resume in mid-October. Unfortunately that isn\u2019t enough time for Hurst to fully recover from surgery. The completed episodes will now be reshot with a new actor, causing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/10\/17\/24272798\/amazons-god-of-war-series-is-going-back-to-the-drawing-board\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">further delays<\/a> to the show following its initial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/12\/14\/23509418\/god-of-war-amazon-prime-video-tv-show-series\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announcement in 2022<\/a>. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, the studios behind the live-action television adaption of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/4\/12\/17223854\/god-of-war-review-ps4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2018 God Of War game<\/a>, have yet to announce who will replace Hurst.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Recasting a leading actor mid-production is a rare occurrence. That will be of little comfort to Hurst, however, who gained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/streaming\/886008\/amazon-god-of-war-kratos-image\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">40 pounds of muscle<\/a> for the role, according to Deadline.
