Million-dollar contract awarded for Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex renos<\/p>\n

Surrey council has awarded Willow Spring Construction Ltd. a $1,183,226.88 contract to renovate the Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex particularly with wrestling in mind.<\/p>\n
The spending limit is set at $1,301,550. The complex, at #100 16555 Fraser Highway, is a 209,056 square-foot multi-purpose recreation facility offering numerous aquatic, fitness and recreation programs.<\/p>\n
More than 6,000 square feet of vacant space on the second floor will be renovated into new multi-purpose and mat rooms. The work is expected to begin late July and be done by late 2026.<\/p>\n
Councillor Gordon Hepner noted it will \u201cprimarily\u201d be used by wrestling groups. <\/p>\n
Laurie Cavan, Surrey\u2019s manager of parks, recreation and culture said the city has experienced \u201clots of growth in wrestling and we were looking for opportunities to expand those facilities so yes in the after-school hours wrestling will be a key priority and that will be reflected in the allocation of the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cavan noted there will be \u201copportunity\u201d to introduce seniors programs during the day, daycamps for children in the summer and other fitness classes but \u201cdefinitely wrestling given its popularity will receive a high priority in the after-school hours and we\u2019ve been working with the wrestling clubs across the city in terms of the allocation at that facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
