Another day of aggressive racing at the 2026 Tour de l\u2019Abitibi,<\/a> with another great result for Canada.
Quebec\u2019s Zachari Moreau took Stage 5 on Friday after winning a sprint from a successful late escape in Rouyn-Noranda.<\/p>\n

Stage 5 recap<\/p>\n

Once again, the stage was spicy from the start, with breaks and attacks animating things from the get-go. Moreau (\u00c9quipe du Qu\u00e9bec) ended up the fastest from a 10-rider lead group, beating Kazakhstan\u2019s Gleb Novikov into second behind brown jersey Carter Deveer<\/a> (Team Canada.) Deveer has two stage wins, including the TT. Meanwhile, Fabrice Dufresne rounded out the podium after spending much of the day on the attack.<\/p>\n

The early moves<\/p>\n

The action started almost immediately as Olivier Fraser (EC Sports Experts) and Cor Sinke (PNW Racing) broke clear, building an advantage of nearly one minute. Sinke also collected the first intermediate sprint.<\/p>\n

The race took another turn when Dufresne and Isak Beauregard (Espoirs Quilicot) launched a counterattack. The pair quickly opened a lead of more than two minutes, with Dufresne taking the first King of the Mountain points while Beauregard claimed the bonus sprint.<\/p>\n

Peloton tries to reel in the move<\/p>\n

As the stage wore on, the chase began to organize. Mexico\u2019s Nicolas Arguelles Coss and Santiago Alejandro Perez Perez bridged across with Keaton Schisler (KW Cycling Academy pb Liftow Liftrucks), creating a five-rider move with roughly 40 km remaining.<\/p>\n

That group didn\u2019t stay intact for long. A fresh wave of attackers joined the leaders in the closing kilometres. They formed what was ultimately a decisive 10-rider break that included Moreau, Dufresne, Leonard Mayrand, Edouard Henri, Novikov, Nicolas Ratcliffe, Jake Mercado and Beauregard.
Despite the peloton\u2019s efforts behind, the escape worked together well enough to keep its advantage at just over a minute heading into the finish.<\/p>\n

Moreau timed his sprint perfectly to seal the victory for \u00c9quipe du Qu\u00e9bec. Novikov crossed the line second, while Dufresne finished third after one of the day\u2019s strongest rides.<\/p>\n

There are two stages left at the 56th edition of this important international stage race for juniors. On Saturday, the boys in Quebec will race around Rouyn-Noranda for a total of 115.2km.
