Taylor Halfyard with Peel police in a news conference Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The woman was taken to a local trauma centre, but later died of her injuries, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Halfyard said the woman was jaywalking across the road in the northbound direction and fell after stepping off the mid-block median into westbound traffic. A vehicle ran her over at that time, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The driver and his vehicle initially left the scene, but returned about eight minutes later and was arrested for failure to remain at a collision resulting in bodily harm.
