American boxer Hannah Rapp has been killed in a collision with a car while she was cycling in Brazos, Texas.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old rising boxing star had won eight and drawn one of her first nine professional bouts, capturing the North American Boxing Federation featherweight title.<\/p>\n
Last month she challenged Tiara Brown for the World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight championship, losing by unanimous decision.<\/p>\n
Ms Brown paid tribute to Rapp online saying she was “the best dance partner I have ever faced as a pro”.<\/p>\n
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman also shared a statement in the wake of the tragedy, describing Rapp as “an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family”.<\/p>\n
“We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career,” he said.<\/p>\n
Internet personality and founder of boxing and mixed martial arts promotion company Most Valuable Promotions, Jake Paul, called Rapp a “warrior” in a tribute posted on X.<\/p>\n
“Gone too soon. Condolences to her entire clan,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Brazos County sheriff’s office said it had identified the driver of the vehicle as 31-year-old Charles Medina, who has been charged with manslaughter.<\/p>\n
