Just one year after a thrilling comeback performance that earned him a bronze medal at the 2025 BMX Racing World Championships in Denmark, Lucas Zhou from Surrey, BC, has secured the rainbow jersey at the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships, which took place in Brisbane, Australia, on July 18-19.<\/p>\n
\u201cI honestly can\u2019t believe that I am a world champion now,\u201d said Zhou in an announcement<\/a> from Cycling Canada. \u201cIt\u2019s been something I\u2019ve dreamed of since I began racing.\u201d Not only is the world championship victory a milestone in Lucas\u2019 young career, but it\u2019s also a historic moment for the nation as Canada\u2019s first-ever world title in Junior Men\u2019s BMX Racing.<\/p>\n A product of BC\u2019s BMX racing community, Lucas has been riding since a very young age, coming up through the grassroots club system and as an alumnus of Cycling BC\u2019s athlete development and high performance programs.
