First it was Bella, a great white shark weighing more than 700 pounds was spotted near Quebec shores.<\/p>\n

Now there are three great white sharks currently swimming through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, according to data from Ocearch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Is the St. Lawrence safe to swim in?<\/p>\n

Sharks are present in the St. Lawrence, particularly in the Gulf and estuary where the water is salty and cold.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The newest arrival is Cross, a male measuring 9 feet 1 inch and weighing 377 pounds, who has travelled along Nova Scotia’s southwestern coast near Yarmouth before entering the Gulf of St. Lawrence through the Bay of Fundy. On July 19, Cross was detected close to the Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula, off the coast of Gasp\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Another shark currently in the Gulf is Ripple, an adult male measuring 11 feet 6 inches and weighing 778 pounds. Ripple has travelled the farthest over the past month: on June 21, he was off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and is now heading toward the Magdalen Islands.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bella, the 10-foot-2-inch, 729-pound female that drew widespread attention this month, has been moving between the Magdalen Islands and the Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula. Her most recent signal was recorded on July 19 at 10:03 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n
