Pride Month 2026 highlighted Edmonton residents\u2019 commitment to make the city a welcoming place for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
There were events in Edmonton and surrounding areas for all ages to celebrate who they are and connect with their neighbours. Despite the rain, the city proved that there is a home for queer people in Alberta.<\/p>\n
Explore Edmonton<\/a> provided a Guide to Edmonton Pride<\/a>. This included a Pride Event Calendar<\/a> that stretches through June and into the summer months. I was in awe of just how many and what types of events were available.\u00a0<\/p>\n There were block parties within different Edmonton neighbourhoods, as well as the infamous Fruit Loop Pride Block Party<\/a> in Churchill Square, complete with a drag story time and drag brunch. The Edmonton Public Library<\/a> showed<\/a> 2SLGBTQIA+ films and created programming for children and adults. Of course, the Evolution Lounge<\/a>, Edmonton\u2019s gay bar, also continued hosting karaoke nights, drag shows, and more. There were multiple events every week throughout the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n I attended Pride Night<\/a> with the Riverhawks<\/a>, our local baseball team, and had a wonderful time. Re\/max Field<\/a> was filled with rainbow-clad fans. The crowd was excited to eat hot dogs and watch Heated Rivalry themed look-a-like competitions between innings. My favourite part was the \u201cdrag race\u201d where local drag queens literally raced each other around the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n 2SLGBTQIA+ events in Edmonton are not only fun, but they also build connections that make people feel seen. The recent discriminatory legislation<\/a> against transgender youth in Alberta has created distrust between the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and the province. This Pride Month proved that this distrust does not need to exist between the individuals living in the province.<\/p>\n There are many 2SLGBTQIA+ resources<\/a> and events within Edmonton built by a community of people who simply want to support each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n On August 22, the Edmonton Pride Festival will host the Edmonton Pride Parade & Trans March<\/a>. This is a more traditional style event, and sounds like a lot of fun, but it is not the only opportunity to continue engaging in Pride.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Pride Centre of Edmonton<\/a> outlines a list<\/a> of formal and casual community groups to engage in. I appreciate how Edmontonians have built events for those who love a loud parade and for those who would rather play a board game<\/a>.<\/p>\n Pride should be for everyone, and Edmonton has proved that it can be.<\/p>\n
