Dua Lipa revealed in an interview with Harper\u2019s Bazaar that she visited a women\u2019s prison in the U.K. where they discussed the book Shuggie Bain One of Dua Lipa<\/a>\u2019s recent book club appearances didn\u2019t happen at a cafe or a bookstore \u2014 but inside a prison.\n<\/p>\n The \u201cLevitating\u201d singer, 29, revealed in an interview with Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/a> published on Tuesday, Aug. 19 that she visited a women\u2019s prison in the U.K. as a guest of the Booker Prize Foundation\u2019s Books Unlocked<\/a> program.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n Dua Lipa.<\/p>\n Lester Cohen\/Getty for The Recording Academy<\/p>\n \u201cThere was also one lady in there that I think about often,\u201d Lipa shared. \u201cAnd she was about 52 years old or something, and she said, \u2018Oh, had I maybe read books sooner in my life, maybe I wouldn\u2019t be here, because reading books has really made me understand people and humans and emotions.\u2019 \u201d\n<\/p>\n \u201cReading opens you up to the world. And it makes the world so much smaller,\u201d the singer added.\n<\/p>\n She noted that the book club in the prison was discussing the book Shuggie Bain<\/a>, a Booker Prize-winning novel by Douglas Stuart about a boy growing up with his alcoholic mother in public housing in Scotland. Each month, she picks a new book to read; one that highlights the club\u2019s belief that literature can \u201crepresent diverse global voices, telling powerful stories spanning fiction, memoir and manifesto,\u201d per the platform\u2019s website.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n And when it comes to her love of reading and literacy, the singer and bookworm really walks the walk.\n<\/p>\n Lipa continues to pass down her love for reading with her monthly choices for her book club.
