We\u2019d like to catch a wave right out of here. Mike Love apparently embraced his inner antonym at Brian Wilson\u2019s funeral service<\/a>, with fellow Beach Boys member Al Jardine telling<\/a> Rolling Stone in a new interview that Love chose to make a speech all about his own achievements. \u201cMike wanted everybody to know that he wrote every single word of \u2018Good Vibrations,\u2019\u201d Jardine explained. \u201cI didn\u2019t feel the compassion, let\u2019s put it that way. Mike\u2019s got some serious megalomania problems.\u201d When it was Jardine\u2019s turn to address the mourners, he recalls saying the following about Love\u2019s behavior, which elicited laughs from the room: \u201cMike, I\u2019ve written some songs with Brian myself. We wrote one called\u00a0\u2018Surfin\u2019 Down the Swanee River.\u2019\u00a0It just wasn\u2019t as big as \u2018Good Vibrations.\u2019\u201d He went on to speak more thoroughly about Wilson\u2019s legacy as a musician. \u201cI was focusing on Brian, and Mike was more focused on Mike,\u201d Jardine added. \u201cI think that is what it boiled down to.\u201d A representative for Love, who was inducted into<\/a> the Songwriters Hall of Fame earlier this year for his Beach Boys oeuvre, disputed Jardine\u2019s story. So they\u2019re giving each other the excitations, but not in a fun way.<\/p>\n
