<\/p>\nA trial-run ban on heavy trucks on roads north of Brampton will improve safety amid ongoing bridge reconstruction and storm sewer work,\u00a0the Region of Peel says.<\/p>\n
The truck restrictions have been in place in Caledon since the beginning of July and will remain in effect until at least the end of next year.<\/p>\n
Heavy trucks are blocked during all hours on Olde Base Line Road from Airport Road to Winston Churchill Boulevard, on Airport Road from King Street to Charleston Sideroad, and on Old Church Road from Highway 50 to Airport Road, the region says.<\/p>\n
Along with a more than a year-long ban on trucks on specific roads, all traffic<\/p>\n
Closures are required for reconstruction of the Centreville Creek Bridge and the installation of new storm sewers along Airport Road.<\/p>\n

Roads highlighted in blue show where trucks are restricted during certain hours, while purple roads are where trucks are restricted all day with local deliveries allowed.<\/p>\n
The work will require a full road closure until Sept 7 and a 7-day-a-week truck travel restriction on Airport Road between King Street and Charleston Sideroad, and on Old Church Road between Highway 50 and Airport Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe full, temporary closure is required during the current phase of construction, as there is no practical detour for large trucks through this corridor, leaving trucks with no option other than passing through the work zone,\u201d the region says.<\/p>\n
A one-year pilot project has also been launched in Alton to improve community safety, reduce noise, and support a more pedestrian-friendly environment following complaints from residents.<\/p>\n
The region says most of the trucks travelling through Alton don\u2019t serve local destinations, with only a small number beginning or ending trips in the village.<\/p>\n
This ban applies to Porterfield Road\/Queen Street East\/Main Street from Charleston Sideroad to Dufferin County Road 109, Mondays through Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m., and at\u00a0any time on weekends and holidays.<\/p>\n
That includes local deliveries, the region says. The pilot project is intended to reduce the impact of truck traffic during the busiest and most sensitive times of day.<\/p>\n
