Auditor General Tyson Shtykalo issued 18 recommendations to the Province of Manitoba to strengthen the Province\u2019s financial reporting processes after repeated issues were identified in financial statement audits.<\/p>\n
The recommendations came in a new report and include planning, oversight, recordkeeping, and staff training.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile the Province has taken steps to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of the financial information presented for audit, more work is needed,\u201d Shtykalo said.<\/p>\n
It was noted that over several years, the Auditor General has noticed an increasing number of errors in financial information prepared by the Province and presented for audit. Before stating that the Province had to correct the errors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe preparation of the Public Accounts is inherently complex and requires a coordinated effort across government,\u201d Shtykalo said. \u201cReducing the number of errors in the information presented to us for auditing will require sustained focus from both the Office of the Provincial Comptroller and government departments.\u201d<\/p>\n
