Eastman has officially designated chemin Mont-Bon-Plaisir as a cycling route, creating a new connection between Route verte No. 1 and the Sentier de l\u2019Ardoise.<\/p>\n
The municipality announced the project July 16. It was completed in collaboration with the MRC du Val-Saint-Fran\u00e7ois, according to Eastman.<\/p>\n
The road is now recognized as a chauss\u00e9e d\u00e9sign\u00e9e, or designated roadway. This type of cycling route remains open to motor vehicles and is intended for roads with relatively low traffic volumes.<\/p>\n
Eastman installed signs and pavement markings to identify the route.<\/p>\n
The municipality said chemin Mont-Bon-Plaisir was selected because it carries relatively little traffic and truck traffic is prohibited. Those conditions make it more suitable for sharing between motorists and cyclists.<\/p>\n
The designated route links Route verte No. 1 on chemin des Diligences with the Sentier de l\u2019Ardoise.<\/p>\n
The connection follows chemin Mont-Bon-Plaisir and 5e Rang in Bonsecours.<\/p>\n
According to the municipality, no official cycling route had previously connected Eastman with municipalities north of its territory.<\/p>\n
Eastman said the project supports one of the goals in its active transportation plan: improving connections between neighbouring municipalities.<\/p>\n
The municipality said rural roads in the region are seeing more cyclists as gravel cycling becomes increasingly popular in the Eastern Townships.<\/p>\n
Chemin Mont-Bon-Plaisir was already widely used by cyclists before receiving its official designation.<\/p>\n
Eastman said the signs and pavement markings are intended to formalize the route and promote better sharing of the road among users.<\/p>\n
The route is expected to serve both people who travel by bicycle and recreational cyclists.<\/p>\n
