{"id":824029,"date":"2026-07-24T22:38:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T22:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/824029\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T22:38:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T22:38:20","slug":"law-society-suspends-lawyer-at-firm-founded-by-raj-grewal-avalanche-of-evidence-points-to-massive-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/824029\/","title":{"rendered":"Law Society suspends lawyer at firm founded by Raj Grewal: Avalanche of evidence points to massive fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Davinder Khattra, who has been described by multiple sources as Raj Grewal\u2019s right-hand man at RSG Law, the firm founded by the former Brampton MP, has been suspended by the Law Society of Ontario after a flood of lawsuits alleging widespread real estate and mortgage fraud over the past two months, totalling more than $200 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The decision came down Wednesday after the Law Society Tribunal released a stunning factum that includes the most damning evidence of the alleged schemes carried out by Khattra and Grewal to date, as the former politician was drowning in real estate debt.<\/p>\n<p>The LSO, which governs lawyers across the province in a self-regulated industry, alleges Grewal and Khattra might have committed widespread crimes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the factum, the Law Society had received more than 20 complaints about Khattra\u2019s conduct and reviewed evidence that he had misappropriated funds on \u201cmultiple occasions\u201d; \u201creceived funds that are the proceeds of fraudulent cheques, provided fraudulent title insurance to lenders, and has registered fraudulent discharges on title properties.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neither Khattra or his legal representatives responded to questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An automatic reply received from Khattra\u2019s email address at RSG Law indicates he is \u201ccurrently unavailable and unable to respond to emails or phone calls in a timely matter (sic)\u2026If your matter is time-sensitive, you should promptly contact another lawyer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through his legal representation, Grewal has said he sold RSG Law to Khattra two years ago and the LSO\u2019s filings state the same. The LSO documents show Khattra, who is 29 and was called to the bar in 2021, took over the firm in September 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-20\/criminal-investigation-into-raj-grewal-and-law-firm-he-founded-underway-as-more-damning-lawsuits-are-filed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lawsuits allege Grewal has been the controlling mind<\/a> of RSG Law all along, and evidence published by The Pointer shows <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-05-25\/raj-grewal-sues-the-pointer-for-12m-over-article-that-detailed-how-the-law-firm-he-founded-is-connected-to-a-fraud-investigation-websites-of-companies-he-started-scrubbed-after-publication\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grewal has been directly involved with the matters behind the legal claims as the firm\u2019s decision maker<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the LSO factum Raj Grewal\u2019s continued leadership at RSG Law has been highlighted. In one case involving a real estate transaction in March of this year, where it is alleged Khattra registered charges against a client\u2019s property without their consent, the complainant says it was actually Grewal who was his lawyer, not Khattra.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe complainant states that he retained Mr. Grewal on the transaction; however, Mr. Grewal says the\u00a0complainant was Mr. Khattra&#8217;s client\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The LSO documents suggest Khattra believes some of the alleged schemes pinned on him were actually carried out by Grewal, who hired him as a young lawyer for the firm that the former politician focused on (which still uses his initials as its name) after Grewal\u2019s high-profile 2018 resignation following gambling problems when he was a Liberal MP.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsofar as the Lawyer (Khattra) may blame Mr. Grewal for certain fraudulent mortgage transactions, the Lawyer failed to report Mr. Grewal&#8217;s involvement in those transactions to his regulator, contrary to his obligations to the Law Society pursuant to Rule 7.1-3,\u201d the LSO factum highlights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The LSO <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-13\/law-society-of-ontario-moves-to-suspend-raj-grewal-s-licence-citing-evidence-of-significant-risk-of-harm-to-the-public-the-administration-of-justice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has also moved to suspend Grewal\u2019s law licence<\/a>, with a hearing scheduled for August 14.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, despite evidence that showed Grewal had asked\u00a0constituents for money while he was an MP, claiming he needed to pay back student loans then using the money to gamble at an Ottawa-area casino, the LSO determined the disgraced former Brampton Member of Parliament was not a risk to \u201cconduct himself similarly in the future\u201d and no disciplinary action was taken.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amanda Ross, a Partner with Goldbloom Ross Cunningham LLP, is representing Raj Grewal in the ongoing LSO proceedings. She declined to comment on the allegations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can advise that Mr. Grewal is cooperating with the Law Society of Ontario\u2019s ongoing investigation and intends to vigorously defend himself in these proceedings. However, given the ongoing nature of the matter Mr. Grewal cannot comment further,\u201d she wrote in an emailed statement Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the evidence filed for Khattra\u2019s hearing, the Ontario Land Registry Office has frozen more than 100 properties in connection to \u201callegations of fraudulent discharges\u201d by Khattra, Grewal and \u201cother parties\u201d; and there was an attempt to sell one of the properties despite\u00a0a court order that specifically prohibited this.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In one case, Khattra &#8220;fraudulently discharged a $10.8 million mortgage and claimed that it was a misstep\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The allegation\u00a0continues: \u201cThe lenders reported that they were given false assurances of repayment and they were threatened that if they reported the matter to police or cooperated with the Law Society, they would not receive their funds.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Pointer has been contacted by sources who allege they received similar threats from either Khattra or Grewal, and that Grewal told them if they escalated their problems outside the firm, he would not pay their money back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" height=\"467\" hspace=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/6a62c37acb7c3.jpg\" style=\"width:900px;height:467px;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px;margin-right:0px;border:0px solid black;\" vspace=\"0\" width=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" height=\"456\" hspace=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/6a62c37b1fb9c.jpg\" style=\"width:900px;height:456px;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px;margin-right:0px;border:0px solid black;\" vspace=\"0\" width=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Former Brampton MP Raj Grewal, who founded RSG Law, claims he sold the law firm two years ago. The company\u2019s website listed him as the principal lawyer until at least December 2025 (top), prior to the website\u2019s alteration sometime before late January, before it was almost completely scrubbed <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-05-14\/law-firm-founded-by-former-brampton-mp-raj-grewal-connected-to-multi-million-dollar-fraud-investigation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">following a May 14 article by The Pointer<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In deciding to suspend Khattra\u2019s licence, the LSO outlined how \u201cthe risk of harm must be significant\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order should not be made to address potential harm that is merely theoretically possible or that is very unlikely to occur,\u201d the factum argues; while the LSO appears to have little doubt about the severity of the actions by Grewal and Khattra, according to evidence.<\/p>\n<p>One of the complaints to the LSO highlighted in the factum document was by Jesse Samuel Brodlieb.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The factum details that Brodlieb was \u201cretained by Navdeep Singh, the sole director of <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-23\/tel:10001001296\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10001001296<\/a> Ontario Inc. and 2771586 Ontario Inc. to engage in tax restructuring involving both numbered companies and their two properties at 17 and 19 High Point Road, Toronto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brodlieb then discovered that a loan for $15 million had been registered against the properties on December 12, 2025, despite his client never authorizing the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Singh, who had retained Brodlieb, had previously retained Rajvinder (Raj) Singh Grewal, at RSG Law, the Mississauga firm founded by the former MP, for another matter related to the same properties the year before. The unauthorized loan using the properties to secure funds was linked to Grewal and Khattra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn March 5, 2026, Mr. Brodlieb sent a letter to (Khattra) and Mr. Grewal demanding the charges be discharged by March 6, 2026 and that all documents related to the charges be produced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alarming allegation used Wednesday by the LSO, when Khattra\u2019s licence was suspended, continues: \u201cTo date, Mr. Brodlieb has not received any mortgage or loan documentation from (Khattra) or Mr. Grewal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each notice of motion submitted by the LSO against the two, seeking to suspend their licence, states their \u201cconduct indicates a significant risk of harm to members of the public and to the public interest in the administration of justice.\u201d Grewal\u2019s hearing is scheduled three weeks from now. The factum used in Khattra\u2019s hearing Wednesday includes the same description of the risk he poses.<\/p>\n<p>Details introduced for Wednesday\u2019s hearing, when Khattra was later suspended, include evidence in 26 separate matters being investigated by the LSO. Evidence against Khattra, \u201cThe Lawyer\u201d is highlighted throughout the jaw-dropping statement of facts and arguments:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer is alleged to have changed the closing date of a real estate transaction without the client\u2019s knowledge,\u201d the factum reveals, regarding one complaint to the LSO. \u201cTD tried to reverse the funds when it learned the client did not authorize the earlier closing, but the funds had been withdrawn from the Lawyer\u2019s trust account by certified cheque to the Lawyer\u2019s firm. The trust account contained insufficient funds to repay the mortgage funds.\u201d Eventually, TD was able to recover the full amount and closed Khattra\u2019s account.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer failed to pay $1.93 million to lenders, despite his law firm stating that it held funds in trust for the lenders.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer received sale proceeds on behalf of his client, but he failed to pay off an existing mortgage on the property and has not paid remaining funds of $200,000 to his clients.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer registered a discharge of a mortgage from title and failed to pay out the mortgage.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer has repeatedly misled opposing counsel, lenders and his own clients regarding the payment of funds held in trust.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer told CIBC that he did not receive a transfer of funds, which led to CIBC sending two transfers of approximately $1.6 million to the Lawyer. When asked to return the funds, the Lawyer delayed for three weeks.\u201d The transfer of funds was allegedly for a mortgage for a man named Jaskarn Dhillon. (A man with the same name was the vice president of operations at RSG Group, Raj Grewal\u2019s development company which shared the same office with RSG Law. Dhillon is also directly connected to an <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-02\/as-raj-grewal-and-law-firm-he-founded-face-lawsuits-alleging-crooked-deals-investigation-connects-him-to-3m-in-fraudulent-cheques-whose-proceeds-ended-up-with-the-firm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">alleged scheme involving millions of dollars in fraudulent cheques that ended up in RSG Law\u2019s trust account<\/a>).\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer received approximately $1.35 million to satisfy the funds owing on a mortgage, but he failed to pay the funds to the lender until the lender retained counsel and made a demand for payment.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer\u2019s officer told opposing counsel that it had wired funds to close a real estate transaction, but the closing funds were not delivered until almost a month later.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer claimed he would pay lenders the $1.93 million in funds his firm held in trust on their behalf. RSG Law issued a cheque to the lenders, which was returned due to non-sufficient funds, and no further payments were made.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer provided an undertaking to pay out a lender and register a discharge of an existing mortgage in October 2025. He failed to do so.\u201d\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer took advantage of an error at the Land Registry Office in which a VTB mortgage was accidentally deleted from title. Despite knowing of the VTB mortgage, the Lawyer acted on the sale of the property and purported to convey good title to the purchaser without paying the lender or notifying it of the sale.\u201d The Pointer has previously reported on this alleged scheme which triggered a <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-05-27\/law-firm-founded-by-raj-grewal-and-a-company-directed-by-his-father-accused-of-fraud-conspiracy-in-explosive-5-5m-lawsuit-over-land-deal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$5.5 million lawsuit against Khattra, RSG Law and a numbered company directed by Avtar Singh Grewal, Raj Grewal\u2019s father<\/a>.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer received funds in his law firm&#8217;s trust account that were the proceeds of fraudulent cheques. These transfers total over $3.3 million.\u201d (The Pointer has <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-02\/as-raj-grewal-and-law-firm-he-founded-face-lawsuits-alleging-crooked-deals-investigation-connects-him-to-3m-in-fraudulent-cheques-whose-proceeds-ended-up-with-the-firm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously reported the numerous direct links between these fake cheques, RSG Law, the numbered companies involved in the transfer of the fraudulent funds, and Raj Grewal<\/a>. RSG Law has claimed some of the funds from the fraudulent cheques were transferred to Johal Law, a firm owned by Raj Grewal\u2019s brother-in-law. In a separate matter before the courts, Grewal\u2019s brother-in-law, Rajinder Singh Johal, deposited $6.6 million in fraudulent cheques into his firm\u2019s trust account on the same day that fraudulent cheques were first deposited in the matter directly involving RSG Law. Proceeds from the funds deposited into the Johal law account might have also ended up with RSG Law, according to court documents.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer appears to be involved in an unauthorized and fraudulent mortgage transaction in which the borrower did not consent to the charge and did not execute mortgage documents.\u201d&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Director of Land Titles has frozen over 100 properties in connection with allegations of fraudulent discharges registered by the Lawyer.\u201d&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer acted on a sale transaction for a property subject to a Mareva order.\u201d This would be a blatant violation of a court order.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer has repeatedly delayed the closing of real estate transactions without his clients&#8217; knowledge or consent and\/or without the knowledge or consent of other parties.\u201d&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer paid back the funds owing on the mortgages registered on Navdeep Singh&#8217;s property, but it is unclear where the funds came from. Mr. Singh did not provide funds to the Lawyer because he alleges he did not authorize the charges.\u201d&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer provided fraudulent title insurance to lenders.\u201d&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe Lawyer told lenders that if they reported his conduct to the police or cooperated with the Law Society, they would not receive funds.\u201d&#13;<\/p>\n<p>According to the LSO factum: \u201cthe above conduct indicates the Lawyer (Davinder Khattra) has participated in, facilitated or failed to prevent mortgage fraud. At minimum, the Rules of Professional Conduct require that a lawyer conduct themselves in a manner \u2018so as to guard against becoming the tool or dupe of unscrupulous parties.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In responding to the numerous investigations by the LSO, Khattra appears to have made matters worse for himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lawyer appears to have fraudulently altered bank statements provided to the Law Society,\u201d the factum alleges. \u201cThe Lawyer has failed to cooperate fully with the Law Society&#8217;s investigations. He has not responded to requests for information in connection with four complaints, and he has refused to authorize the release of bank documents directly to the Law Society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Pointer first reported that RSG Law <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-05-14\/law-firm-founded-by-former-brampton-mp-raj-grewal-connected-to-multi-million-dollar-fraud-investigation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was connected to a multi-million fraud investigation launched by Scotiabank<\/a> in May. Following the publication of that story on May 14, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-05-25\/raj-grewal-sues-the-pointer-for-12m-over-article-that-detailed-how-the-law-firm-he-founded-is-connected-to-a-fraud-investigation-websites-of-companies-he-started-scrubbed-after-publication\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the website of RSG Law was reduced to a single \u201cContact Us\u201d page, and the site for Raj Grewal\u2019s development company, RSG Group, was taken offline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On May 25, development consortium WIGI Restructured Bond Corporation <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-05-27\/law-firm-founded-by-raj-grewal-and-a-company-directed-by-his-father-accused-of-fraud-conspiracy-in-explosive-5-5m-lawsuit-over-land-deal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">launched its $5.5 million lawsuit against RSG Law<\/a> over allegations the law firm conspired with Avtar Singh Grewal, Raj Grewal\u2019s father, and others to avoid paying a multi-million-dollar mortgage WIGI held on a piece of land in the Brantford area.<\/p>\n<p>On June 5, Harvinderjit and Surinder Waryah <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-06-18\/brampton-family-sues-rsg-law-over-withheld-mortgage-funds-lawsuits-and-investigations-mount-against-raj-grewal-founded-firm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filed a statement of claim against RSG Law and Davinder Singh Khattra for breach of fiduciary duty<\/a>. The lawsuit alleges the defendants, RSG Law and Khattra, failed to properly execute their duties to transfer $714,000 in mortgage funds after Nitan Waryah purchased his parents\u2019 house. The transfer was done at the same time RSG Law had its trust accounts frozen as a result of being linked to the fraud investigation ongoing at Scotiabank. Waryah\u2019s complaint to the LSO also forms part of the factum made public yesterday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-06-24\/raj-grewal-faces-explosive-allegations-of-fraud-in-25m-and-1-6m-lawsuits-filed-against-former-brampton-mp-while-legal-troubles-mount-against-law-firm-he-founded\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raj Grewal is also being sued in two separate lawsuits<\/a> for allegedly failing to make payments on a $25 million property in Brampton; and for the alleged scheme to defraud lenders out of $1.6 million in connection to a piece of land in Oakville Grewal purchased with his father.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On June 30, The Pointer reported <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-06-30\/desperate-for-funds-raj-grewal-defaults-on-loan-misses-court-ordered-payment-forced-to-hand-over-2-houses-and-pay-1-2m-after-losing-lawsuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raj Grewal defaulted on a loan and was ordered to hand over two Brampton houses and pay $1.2 million after losing a related lawsuit.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On July 2, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-02\/as-raj-grewal-and-law-firm-he-founded-face-lawsuits-alleging-crooked-deals-investigation-connects-him-to-3m-in-fraudulent-cheques-whose-proceeds-ended-up-with-the-firm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Pointer reported on Raj Grewal\u2019s connections to more than $12 million in fraudulent cheques, in a case that saw Scotiabank freeze RSG Law\u2019s trust account<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The story also detailed previous allegations in the ongoing case involving the lawsuit by WIGI, in which Justice Fred Myers of Ontario\u2019s Superior Court found strong evidence against RSG Law and Khattra.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointer.com\/article\/2026-07-07\/raj-grewal-his-wife-father-and-mother-s-estate-named-in-bombshell-137-million-lawsuit-alleging-widespread-real-estate-fraud-toronto-law-firm-torkin-manes-also-sues-him\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">On July 7, a recent story<\/a> detailed another lawsuit against RSG Law and Raj Grewal, alleging widespread mortgage fraud and $64 million owed to lenders.
