This marks the second year in a row the Spanish professional golfer has earned this award.

Holding a trophy after a winless 2025 seems surprising, especially when you consider runner-up, Joaquin Niemann. Neimann took home five wins in 13 events this year, an impressive feat that may leave you wondering, how exactly did Rahm trump Neimann for the individual trophy?

Jon Rahm’s 2025 Season

“Still slightly bittersweet.” That’s how Rahm described his victory when asked. The 30-year-old took home 12 top-ten finishes, and the one outlier was still a solid T11. Basically, thanks to LIV’s point system and Rahm’s incredibly consistent game, he was able to clinch the win without ever actually taking home a number one spot.

“I know I’m supposed to be happy; it’s a great moment. But it just doesn’t feel great to finish the year losing two playoffs.” Rahm stated. His two playoff losses occurred on back-to-back weeks. The most recent, a first hole loss at The Club at Chatham Hills against Sebastian Munoz on August 17th. Prior to that, on August 10th, Rahm lost in a 3-way playoff against Josele Ballester and Dean Burmester, the latter of which ended up with the win.

“To be able to win the season without actually winning a tournament, I know eventually I’ll be proud of that, I did what I needed to do today.” said Rahm. “I went out there, shot 60. I had one bad swing all day on 14 which cost me a bogey, but gave myself the best chance.”

Rahm added, “Right now it’s slightly more something I’m going to suffer over a little bit more, and it may never be replicated. One could argue [Niemann] was probably the more deserving guy to win this.”

Rahm Versus Neimann

With 5 wins this year, Neimann lost out on the Individual Title to Rahm due to his lack of consistency. Although 5 wins is pretty consistent, when compared to Rahm’s all but one top-ten finishes, it fails in comparison. While Rahm earned multiple points at every tournament, Neimann had two weeks with zero points, and two more with less than one point on the board. Neimann acknowledged the run that Rahm had this year, and how impressive his golf game is, stating,

“It was quite a show by Jon. I obviously played with him today, and I knew it was going to be a good battle,” Niemann said. “It was going to be a long day. I knew I needed to play well. I knew Jon was playing amazing golf lately. We all know how good of a player he is, and yeah, he played amazing. I feel like he didn’t miss many shots, made a lot of putts, left his ball close to the hole pretty much every time.”

Neimann went on to say, “I played good. I started playing my best golf on the back nine, which I’m proud of it, but at the end of the day, the putts didn’t drop, and it wasn’t enough. Yeah, it’s kind of hard to swallow. But at the end of the day, I think it is what it is. I feel like it’s going to put something inside me to kind of work harder and try to be in this situation again next year and make it different.”

Five wins is still an impressive feat for Neimann, as is Rahm’s consistent game play and second-straight crown, even if this one came with no number one finishes.

Sydney Jones Sydney Jones is a sports writer covering all things golf for Heavy.com.
