Sean David produced one of the championship’s most memorable comebacks Sunday at Lahinch, rallying from three holes down with six to play to defeat fellow Welshman Tomi Bowen, 1 up, and claim the prestigious South of Ireland Amateur title. The victory capped an impressive week for the 23-year-old from Pyle & Kenfig, who survived a loaded field and won the first all-Welsh final in the championship’s history.<\/p>\n

The championship featured its share of surprises long before the final. Stroke-play medalist Connor Graham of Scotland, who fired a dazzling 62 in qualifying and will represent Great Britain & Ireland in his third Walker Cup when the matches return to Lahinch in September, saw his title hopes end in the Round of 16 with a loss to Ireland’s Thomas Higgins. Defending champion Jonathan Keane of host club Lahinch also made an early exit, falling to Ciaran Murphy in the opening round of match play.<\/p>\n
