Remco Evenepoel<\/a> looks back on the Tour de France with a sense of satisfaction. The Belgian rider from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe was at his best in the third week and ultimately finished second in the general classification<\/a>. That was one spot higher than in 2024 and also a confidence boost for the future.For two weeks, Evenepoel certainly didn\u2019t look like he was among the top three in the Tour de France, but the turning point came in Stage 15<\/a>. On the day that UAE Emirates-XRG put on a show with Tadej Pogacar and Isaac del Toro, Evenepoel slipped in between them and won the stage. He also won the time trial in Stage 16 in dominant fashion and was at his very best in the third week.<\/p>\n

It earned him second place, between Pogacar and Del Toro on the podium in Paris. \u201cI came into this race with a clear goal: to win a stage and finish on the podium in the general classification. It worked out\u2014I even won two stages. I\u2019m very happy with what we\u2019ve achieved as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Team manager Patxi Vila echoed that sentiment on Eurosport<\/a>. \u201cI have to congratulate the entire team. We were at our best as a team, especially in the final week, so we\u2019re very satisfied,\u201d said the Spaniard, who emphasized: \u201cWho knows what might have happened with Florian Lipowitz\u2014maybe we would have had two riders on the podium. But that\u2019s cycling, too. Florian will come back stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Tour de France also showed CEO Ralph Denk that he\u2019s making the right moves with his Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe team. Evenepoel\u2019s arrival was the subject of much discussion, but the Belgian ultimately proved his worth on the team backed by Red Bull\u2019s millions. \u201cA lot of new things were introduced this year that have helped us develop our work,\u201d Vila agreed.<\/p>\n

“That creates a new vibe. Remco has shown that he can aim for great things\u2014perhaps even greater than ever before . ” Evenepoel himself isn\u2019t shying away from that either, as evidenced by his comments in Paris: \u201cThis shows that I don\u2019t have to give up on my career goal just yet: winning all three Grand Tours.\u201d He already won the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a in 2022, so he\u2019ll be back for the Giro d\u2019Italia and the Tour de France.<\/p>\n

“Remco in this Tour was the best version of himself so far, partly because he really wants to be this kind of rider. We\u2019ve already seen that he\u2019s capable of more, but he wants to win Grand Tours, and this gives him\u2014and the entire team\u2014confidence,\u201d said Vila, with Denk adding: \u201cSecond place is a huge success, because the general classification is what defines the Tour. We can build on this in the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n
