Toronto police said Sunday that they were investigating a weekend shooting at a Jewish-owned bakery in the city as a potential hate crime.<\/p>\n

A branch of Kiva\u2019s Bagel Bar was targeted by gunfire overnight between Saturday and Sunday, and another branch elsewhere in Toronto had its windows smashed.<\/p>\n

There were no injuries in either incident.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Toronto Police confirmed that the hate crime unit and gun and gang task force were investigating the incidents, and examining whether they were connected to one another.<\/p>\n

In a press conference covered, a police representative acknowledged that the incidents were \u201cconcerning\u201d for \u201cmembers of the Jewish community\u201d in the area, and said that there would be increased police presence in the area as the investigation proceeds.<\/p>\n

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar said on X that he was \u201cfollowing with concern the worrying news from Toronto.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile thankfully none were injured, this is the latest attack in a long and horrifying line of violence and intimidation against the Canadian Jewish community,\u201d he wrote, calling for the Canadian government to \u201cconfront this antisemitic violent wave!\u201d<\/p>\n

I am following with concern the worrying news from Toronto of further attacks against Jewish businesses this morning. <\/p>\n

While thankfully none were injured, this is the latest attack in a long and horrifying line of violence and intimidation against the Canadian Jewish community.\u2026<\/p>\n

Police in Toronto last month said that hired gunmen<\/a> appeared to be targeting Jewish sites in the city.\n<\/p>\n

Gunfire and arson attacks have repeatedly hit synagogues and other Jewish sites in Toronto and other Canadian cities, without causing any fatalities.<\/p>\n

By May 2026, Canada\u2019s Jewish community had experienced more violent antisemitic attacks<\/a> than all of last year, putting it on track to be the most violent year for the Jewish community in recent memory.<\/p>\n

The 400,000-strong Canadian Jewish community has been among the hardest hit by antisemitism since the Hamas terror group launched its war against Israel on October 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

Since the Hamas rampage in Israel, a Toronto Jewish girls\u2019 school was hit with gunfire<\/a> in overnight shootings three times, two Jewish institutions in Montreal were hit by firebombings<\/a>, three men attempted to kidnap<\/a> Jewish women, antisemitic graffiti was daubed on three synagogues<\/a> in Nova Scotia, and a Jewish man in Montreal was beaten in front of his children<\/a>.<\/p>\n
