{"id":829781,"date":"2026-07-27T19:15:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T19:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/829781\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T19:15:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T19:15:09","slug":"fierte-montreal-finalizing-security-measures-with-police-days-after-deadly-berlin-pride-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/829781\/","title":{"rendered":"Fiert\u00e9 Montr\u00e9al finalizing security measures with police, days after deadly Berlin Pride attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Montreal police and city officials met with Fiert\u00e9 Montr\u00e9al\u2019s executive producer \u201cto finalize the security measures\u201d Monday, ahead of Montreal Pride.<\/p>\n<p>Fiert\u00e9 Montr\u00e9al says nearly 10 per cent of its total budget is allocated to security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity is a top priority in the organization of our various events,\u201d a spokesperson told CityNews.<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s meetings are happening two days after the <a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.citynews.ca\/2026\/07\/25\/several-people-are-injured-at-berlins-lgbtq-march-after-a-car-drives-into-the-crowd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Berlin Pride attack<\/a> that left one person dead and 29 injured. A man is suspected of driving a van into a crowd near the festival Saturday night before apparently stabbing others with a machete.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was killed following a search that lasted nearly 24 hours after the attack, which authorities believe was an Islamic extremist terror attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe events in Berlin deeply sadden us,\u201d said Fiert\u00e9 interim general manager Higino Monteiro. \u201cWe express our full solidarity with the organization, those affected, their loved ones, and the entire community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly condemn this attack and call for unity within our movements to support our communities and protect the spaces that allow all people to live their identity freely, celebrate, and advocate safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fiert\u00e9 Montr\u00e9al tells CityNews that festival organizers are working closely with law enforcement to review security procedures, including analyzing \u201cevery entrance and passageway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organization says the Village\u2019 pedestrianized zone will be reinforced with additional barriers.
