{"id":830074,"date":"2026-07-27T22:15:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T22:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/830074\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T22:15:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T22:15:27","slug":"cargo-ship-stranded-in-st-lawrence-river-freed-after-nearly-four-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/830074\/","title":{"rendered":"Cargo ship stranded in St. Lawrence River freed after nearly four weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A cargo ship has been freed after it was stuck for nearly four weeks in the St. Lawrence River north of Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Coast Guard said the Onego Otra was refloated on Sunday morning with the help of three tugboats. <\/p>\n<p>The Onego Otra had been <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/business\/cargo-ship-remains-stuck-in-st-lawrence-river-after-3-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">stranded in the river<\/a> between \u00cele St-Ours and Contrecoeur, since it ran aground June 30 due to a rudder issue that occurred shortly after it left Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>The ship sailed to Sorel on Sunday, escorted by two of the tugs, where it will be inspected by divers, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel was refloated after a second round of lightening operations, which aimed to unload 2,400 tonnes of cargo from the ship.<\/p>\n<p>Crews has previously unloaded 2,720 tonnes\u00a0of cargo earlier in the month in a failed attempt to refloat the ship.
