Years before Scott, 52, found his breakout as Ben Wyatt in the Emmy-winning sitcom Parks and Recreation<\/a>, he auditioned for the role of David Fisher in HBO\u2019s hit drama Six Feet Under<\/a>.<\/p>\n Discussing the early career setback on a recent episode of Amy Poehler\u2019s Good Hang podcast<\/a>, Scott recalled that both he and Michael C. Hall tested for the part, which ultimately went to Hall. <\/p>\n While the Good Place alum remembered losing the part was \u201chard,\u201d he acknowledged: \u201cIt\u2019s good that I didn\u2019t get it because it wouldn\u2019t be nearly as good if I had done it because [Hall] was perfect and incredible.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s incredible, and I wasn\u2019t ready,\u201d Scott reiterated. I think that it\u2019s time for me to read the tea leaves and walk away\u2019,\u201d he admitted. \u201cBut yeah, that was a blow. That was hard. But it\u2019s also important that you have those experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n Though he didn\u2019t land the role, Scott did end up making a guest appearance in the show\u2019s second season as Hall\u2019s brief onscreen boyfriend, Ben Cooper. <\/p>\n open image in gallery<\/p>\n Michael C. Hall and Richard Jenkins in ‘Six Feet Under’ (HBO\/Sky)<\/p>\n The Big Little Lies actor recalled having a \u201cfun\u201d time on the series and described Hall as \u201clovely.\u201d <\/p>\n Hall ended up earning an Emmy nomination for Best Lead Actor in 2002 for his portrayal of the closeted funeral director. <\/p>\n Six Feet Under, which aired from 2001 to 2005<\/a>, was a dark comedy that followed the Fisher family, whose patriarch dies and leaves behind his funeral parlor to his two sons, David and Nate (Peter Krause). It also featured Lauren Ambrose and Frances Conroy.<\/p>\n Throughout its five-season run, the series, created by Alan Ball, earned a total of 53 Emmy nominations, of which it won nine.<\/p>\n Scott joined Parks and Recreation in 2010, debuting in the penultimate episode of season two. He quickly endeared himself to fans through the show\u2019s beloved enemies-to-lovers storyline with Amy Poehler\u2019s Leslie Knope.<\/p>\n He currently leads Apple TV+\u2019s critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller Severance, for which he\u2019s received two Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy nominations.<\/a><\/p>\n This year, he\u2019s up against <\/a>Sterling K.
