{"id":831753,"date":"2026-07-28T16:41:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T16:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/831753\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T16:41:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T16:41:13","slug":"north-bay-streets-turned-into-creeks-during-mondays-rainstorm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/831753\/","title":{"rendered":"North Bay streets turned into creeks during Monday&#8217;s rainstorm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>Several areas of North Bay\u2019s city streets looked more like creeks after Monday\u00a0night\u2019s\u00a0rain storm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>Wallace Road, Lakeshore\u00a0Drive\u00a0and Fisher Street were among the worst reported by local motorists and residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>Scott Harris said the water was so bad on Wyld Street, \u201cit was high enough to move my recycling\u00a0bin\u00a0and backyard water was about the (height) of the seat of my bench.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the flooded areas complained about flooded basements and damage done to\u00a0their\u00a0front yards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>North Bay spokesman Gord Young said a significant amount of rain fell over a short period of time, resulting in surface water flooding in some areas, including Lakeshore Drive, Wallace Road and Commerce Court.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Bus flooding\" class=\"embedded-image__image lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/commerce-court.jpeg\"  height=\"348\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"566\"\/> The scene on part of Commerce Court on Monday night Photo by GREG ESTABROOKS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe intensity and volume of rainfall temporarily exceeded the capacity of parts of the city\u2019s storm sewer system.<\/p>\n<p>The high volume of water entering the city\u2019s wastewater treatment plant caused the primary treatment tanks to overflow, resulting in a minor spill contained on-site. A bypass of the treatment process was not required,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Young said the city has received reports of sewer backups from some property owners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe full extent of impacts to private property is not known at this time.
