Coronation Street’s Gary Windass<\/a> might be at the forefront of the drama right now, due to his involvement in Theo Silverton’s death<\/a>, but his son Jake will soon be taking centre stage with some bigger storylines of his own. <\/p>\n

Jake first appeared on the soap back in 2013 as a newborn baby, who was carried by surrogate Tina McIntyre on behalf of Gary and his then-girlfriend Izzy Armstrong. After his premature birth, Tina shocked the parents when she decided she wanted to keep Jake as her son. <\/p>\n

Following a tumultuous few months, Tina ultimately gave Jake back to Izzy and Gary. The teenager has since been part of some key storylines involving his parental figures, but according Mikey North, this year will see Jake in the spotlight for his own plot. <\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively with Digital Spy, North (who plays Gary), praised his on-screen son and shared what’s in store for “the next generation of Windass”.

“Another mention to Bobby Bradshaw that plays Jake Windass as well. He’s going to be fantastic. He always has been,” the actor said. “He’s just not really had a storyline to show it off yet, but he’s got a lot to come sort of over the next 6 months to a year. <\/p>\n

“He’s got a lot to do, and I’m really excited for him because he’s a cracking little actor and I’m looking forward to seeing the next generation of Windass coming through.” <\/p>\n

With regards to the upcoming storyline, North explained that he only knows “little details” but promised “it’s going to be good”.<\/p>\n

“I’m really happy for him that he’s getting a chance to show what he can do,” he added. <\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Gary is currently in hot water (again), after helping his ex Sarah Platt<\/a> cover-up Theo’s death. With his alibi hanging on by a thread and his wife Maria Connor at her wit’s end<\/a>, Gary is dealing with pressure from all angles. Will he choose to come clean to the police? <\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
