The Sixers have agreed to trade forward Johni Broome<\/a> and a second-round pick to the Clippers, reports Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link<\/a>). According to Charania, Philadelphia will receive cash considerations in the deal.<\/p>\n

\"\"After waiving<\/a> Dalen Terry<\/a> and his non-guaranteed contract in order to officially sign<\/a> LeBron James<\/a>, the 76ers needed to trade or release one more player in order to add<\/a> Kentavious Caldwell-Pope<\/a> on a minimum-salary contract while remaining below their first-apron hard cap<\/a>. Caldwell-Pope will clear waivers on Tuesday after finalizing a buyout with Memphis over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Forward Jabari Walker<\/a> was the only player on Philadelphia\u2019s standard roster without a fully guaranteed contract (he\u2019s owed a $250K partial guarantee), but the front office preferred to hang onto him and move off Broome instead. The Sixers will give up a second-round pick to do so.<\/p>\n

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line and Bleacher Report (Twitter link<\/a>), the Clippers will receive the second-most favorable of three 2027 second-rounders controlled by the 76ers. Those picks are as follows:<\/p>\n

The Sixers\u2019 own 2027 second-round pick.
\nThe Warriors\u2019 or Suns\u2019 2027 second-round pick (whichever is most favorable).
\nThe Thunder\u2019s, Rockets\u2019, Pacers\u2019, or Heat\u2019s 2027 second-round pick (whichever is most favorable).<\/p>\n

The Clippers will send $1MM to Philadelphia to complete the trade, tweets<\/a> Law Murray of The Athletic.<\/p>\n

Broome, who turned 24 last Sunday, was the 35th overall pick in the 2025 draft. He made just 11 NBA appearances for Philadelphia as a rookie, logging 55 total minutes of action and contributing 10 points and 16 rebounds while shooting 4-of-24 from the floor. The former Auburn standout spent more of his rookie season with the Delaware Blue Coats in the G League, appearing in 26 games for Philadelphia\u2019s affiliate.<\/p>\n

Broome averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 32.8 minutes per contest for Delaware, though his NBAGL season ended early when he underwent<\/a> a partial meniscectomy in late February to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. He returned to action in the NBA playoffs, playing some garbage-time minutes in a pair of blowout losses to the Knicks in the second round.<\/p>\n

While the Clippers\u2019 major offseason business was said to be on hold while they wait to see what happens<\/a> with the Kawhi Leonard<\/a> investigation and trade, a deal like this one will have a minimal impact on their roster and cap situation, unlike a possible Peyton Watson<\/a> sign-and-trade or a new deal for restricted free agent Bennedict Mathurin<\/a>, so there should be no delay in getting it done.<\/p>\n

Although Broome is earning his second-year minimum ($2,150,917), he\u2019s in the midst of a four-year contract, so the Clippers can\u2019t use the minimum salary exception to absorb his contract. They\u2019ll acquire him using the $2.3MM trade exception<\/a> they created by sending Chris Paul<\/a> to Toronto at February\u2019s deadline.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether Broome will be part of the Clippers\u2019 plans for 2026\/27 (and possibly beyond) or if they\u2019re just making this deal for the draft pick attached to him. If he does stick around, Los Angeles will have him on a team-friendly deal going forward \u2014 his $2.53MM salary for 2027\/28 and $2.74MM team option for \u201928\/29 are both non-guaranteed.<\/p>\n

As for the Sixers, once they officially trade Broome and sign Caldwell-Pope, they\u2019ll have about $1.8MM in breathing room below their first-apron hard cap, with 14 players on standard deals. They\u2019ll likely keep their 15th roster spot open this fall and then fill it later in the regular season. Barring another trade that changes their cap situation, the 76ers could sign a 15th man as early as December 4, notes Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron (Twitter link<\/a>), though they\u2019ll likely wait until at least January or February.<\/p>\n
