Film-maker Mike Leigh<\/a> has said his next film is likely to be his last.<\/p>\n

According to Indiewire<\/a>, the Oscar-nominated writer-director was speaking at a recent Golden Globes-hosted roundtable in London about his next film Tender Loving Care, a drama set to premiere during this fall festival season.<\/p>\n

The 83-year-old, whose films include Secrets & Lies, Mr Turner and Another Year, said another film would be \u201cvery difficult\u201d and is \u201cnot going to be possible\u201d as a result of his health.<\/p>\n

Leigh has previously spoken about being diagnosed with myositis, a disease that affects the immune system and causes chronic muscle inflammation.<\/p>\n

When asked if Tender Loving Care will be his last film, he responded: \u201cAbsolutely. I think very likely, yes. I mean, I know the girls don\u2019t like to hear me say that, but I think that is the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film is a comedy drama starring Leigh\u2019s longtime collaborator and partner Marion Bailey and recent Widow\u2019s Bay breakout Kate O\u2019Flynn. Specific plot details are unknown, but it has been described as \u201can insightful exploration of the contemporary world\u201d.<\/p>\n

The film will have its Canadian premiere at the Toronto film festival with a world premiere at the Telluride film festival predicted just before it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was lucky in making this last film \u2013 people were very helpful,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019ll see when I get up, that my two friends all helped me to stand up. So I probably can\u2019t do much more. And doing a play is even more physically demanding, strangely enough, than making a film, because on a film you can be moved around.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leigh\u2019s last film Hard Truths<\/a>, starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste, was a critical hit two years ago. The Guardian\u2019s Peter Bradshaw called it \u201ca deeply sober, sombre, compassionate drama\u201d in a four-star review.<\/p>\n
