I’m super grateful to have grown up training in the rain, to have gotten rain in all three places I’ve trained of over the course of my life and my career,” Rogers said.

For the second night in a row, Canada takes gold in the hammer throw in what has become a friendly game of follow the leader between Rogers and Ethan Katzberg.

“It always so funny because he and I will go back and forth on who starts first, usually at a Championship. When one of us gets to go first, it kind of puts pressure on to follow up and deliver. Watching him and watching Rowan throw so well get on the podium is always so inspiring,” Rogers said. “So, I feel like that was definitely fuel for the fire coming out here today to push through some crazy weather.”

Jillian Weir was 5th with her best throw of 66.82 metres.

“It was tough, but you know, I want to look on the bright side. I’m lucky to have competed at three Commonwealth games now. One didn’t go well, one went very well, and this one was somewhere in the middle. I’m here to embrace everything and I feel like I put my best foot forward today and unfortunately came up a little bit short,” Weir said.

Jinaye Shomachuk finished 6th with a best throw of 64.25 metres.

“It was definitely a tough go. It was a whole swath of things, getting used to it. The rain was absolutely brutal. It was a good learning experience, and honestly, making finals, I can’t be that mad about that,” Shomachuk said. “I have my eyes set on Worlds next year. Next year’s going to be a big year, I think.”

VUCSICS TAKES OFF TO A HISTORIC SILVER MEDAL

After his best long jump of 6.66 metres, Noah Vucsics is the proud owner of a Commonwealth Games silver medal in the men’s T20 long jump.

Fact check: Vucsics is the ONLY owner of a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s T20 long jump, with the T20 classification making its Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow this year.

“Normally I can jump over seven meters pretty easily, but today my body just couldn’t. So thankfully I was still able to compete with these guys in these kind of conditions,” Vucsics said. “And another medal for Canada. I’m super excited now to be kind of in the mix of that, the medal party.”

LEDUC AND MCCREATH FLY INTO 100 METRES FINAL

Audrey Leduc and Sade McCreath made their way into the women’s 100 metres final with strong performances in the semis, but the podium was out of reach in a rainy final race.

Leduc was 6th in the final, clocking a time of 11.09 seconds.

McCreath finished 7th with her time of 11.14 seconds.

“I’m excited to be here – grateful. Commonwealth debut, second international final. I had a great start. It was not the best transition, and I really just tried to hold on in the end, but there’s definitely lots more to work on for the rest of the season,” McCreath said.

GALE MOVES ON TO 400 METRE SEMIS

Lauren Gale won Heat 2 of the women’s 400 metre qualifiers and will advance to the semi-finals. Her time of 51.59 seconds was the second-fastest time in the heats.

“I wanted to get out hard. It’s never fun with a false start, but that’s okay. I’m just excited to move on to semis at a big Championships,” Gale said. “It’s very exciting to finally make it. My first ever youth team was the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2017, so it’s a full circle moment to be here at, at the senior Games.”

BIRTHDAY BOY HASSAN GIFTS HIMSELF A SPOT IN THE 800 METRE SEMIS

Abdullahi Hassan advanced to the men’s 800 metre semi-finals with a time of 1:47.20 on his 24th birthday.

“I wanted to push out that first hundred metres and get into a good position, and that’s kind of what I did. Sitting in second was exactly where I wanted to be and I just felt really comfortable and smooth. I made it through and I think I can learn from that race and get ready to gear up to race semi-finals in two days. I’m definitely excited,” Hassan said.

Justin O’Toole was 4th in his heat in a time of 1:49.07 but did not advance.

“It was a pretty strong field for the first heat, and I didn’t really want to leave it to chance. I was hoping I would have a little bit more on the close, but I didn’t quite today. I did what I could. I think I have the heart, but just not quite the legs right now, and I think that’s the way I’d rather have it,” O’Toole said.

MACDONALD AND BLAIR START HEPTATHLON

Sienna MacDonald and Hannah Blair began the seven-event challenge that is the women’s heptathlon.

MacDonald came out flying in the 100 metre hurdles, clocking the fastest time (12.99 seconds) for 1126 points. She wrapped up the first day of heptathlon with a time of 24.74 seconds in the 200 metres to add 911 more points, giving her a total of 3429 and 10th place.

“It started good. Hurdles were great. Going to high jump, it’s been rough all year, but I’m happy with it. Shot put, it got a little rainy and started to hit us pretty hard. So, I was a little disappointed with how that went,” MacDonald said. “I’ve just got to come at it hard tomorrow – nothing to lose.”

Blair was 3rd in her 100 metre hurdles heat with a season’s best time of 13.93 seconds, good for 988 points. Her high jump of 1.73 metres banked 891 points. Blair logged a throw of 11.33 metres in the shot put for 617 points. She concluded the day’s hard work with a time of 26.26 seconds in the 200 metres to add 775 points. Blair will enter the second day of heptathlon with a score of 3271 and 12th place.

“It’s my first national team, so I was just kind of getting used to the chaos of it. I had a bit of a stumble in the hurdles, but then recovered in the second half, so I was really happy with that. High jump, I couldn’t really get into my groove. Overall, it’s still a pleasure to be here and I’m just trying to enjoy it and take it as learnings for next time,” Blair said.

SPRINT SQUAD BOW OUT OF 100 METRE SEMIS

Gabrielle Cole, Duan Asemota and Jerome Blake competed with the goal of racing in their respective 100 metres final, but it wasn’t to be in Glasgow.

Cole was 6th in her women’s 100 metres semi, crossing the line in a time of 11.44 seconds, but did not advance to the final.

“What I had to do was not care about any of the big names lining up beside me. It didn’t matter. It’s not their race. It’s my race. It’s my life, my body. All I had to do is focus on me, focus on my lane, and do what I do best and that’s run. So, I’m still happy with the result.”

Blake finished 5th in his semi-final in a time of 10.12 seconds but did not qualify for the final.

Asemota was 7th in his semi-final with a time of 10.14 seconds and did not advance.

“With me being on the outside, I just wanted to get contact with the field, and I wasn’t able to do that. We’re just going to learn from this, see where I can improve, so I can get better and come back and give a better effort next time,” Asemota said.

LORENZO JUMPS INTO COMMONWEALTH DEBUT

Marguerite Lorenzo finished 7th in the women’s high jump event, achieving a best jump of 1.77 metres.

“I started off good and then the rain got really bad. Maybe I let that affect me mentally a bit too much. At that point, the competition was paused and we brought everyone back in to try to warm up. We came back out and I had two more shots at 1.82 meter, which unfortunately didn’t go, but I gave it my best and I’m really, really thankful for being here,” Lorenzo said.

COLE GRINDS OVER 400 METRES

Austin Cole’s time of 47.87 seconds was good for 4th in his men’s 400 metres heat but did not earn him a spot in the semi-finals.

“The first part felt pretty good. I really felt a strong headwind on the backstretch, and I just tried to not think about it. I think it just took more out of me than I would’ve realized. Coming home, I really didn’t have much at all, unfortunately,” Cole said.

WEDNESDAY AT GLASGOW 2026

Sarah Mitton makes her return to the Commonwealth Games throwing circle, looking to repeat her gold medal form from four years ago.

Addisyn Franceschini takes on the Commonwealth’s para discus field in the women’s discus final.

Nandini Sharma races for glory in the women’s T53/54 1500 metres final.

The grueling women’s heptathlon wraps up for Sienna MacDonald and Hannah Blair, while steeplechasers Grace Fetherstonhaugh and Katelyn Stewart-Barnett take on their own grueling event final.

Maeliss Trapeau looks to book a spot in the women’s 800 metres final, and David Moulongou has the same goal for the men’s 400 metre hurdles in tomorrow’s semis.

Brooke Overholt and Savannah Sutherland begin their women’s 400 metre hurdles journey in the first round of that event.

Qualification starts for the men’s and women’s 200 metres, with some of Canada’s best sprinters working their way towards the finals.
