A 37-year-old Brampton man charged with the first-degree murder of a Toronto woman was previously before the courts on allegations of assaulting and harassing the same victim, according to court documents obtained by Toronto Star.<\/p>\n
Toronto Police allege that Sharnjeet Singh, 37, murdered Navneet Kaur, 26, in a daylight shooting on the morning of Friday, July 24, 2026. Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:23 a.m. in the area of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard, where they found Kaur suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Investigators allege that Singh and Kaur had a brief interaction moments before the shooting.<\/p>\n
The suspect allegedly fled before officers arrived. Later that day, officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located and arrested the suspect.<\/p>\n
Police have charged Singh with first-degree murder and failing to comply with an undertaking. Toronto Police have identified Kaur as the city’s 22nd homicide victim of 2026 and have released her photograph as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n
The homicide investigation has also brought renewed attention to a previous criminal case involving the accused and the victim. According to court documents obtained by the Toronto Star, Singh was arrested on July 17, 2025, after allegedly assaulting Navneet Kaur and repeatedly following and harassing her in what court records describe as an intimate partner violence case. He was later released on conditions while those charges remained before the courts.<\/p>\n
The additional charge of failing to comply with an undertaking alleges that Singh breached the court-ordered conditions of his release from that earlier case.<\/p>\n
Singh made his initial court appearance following his arrest and is scheduled to return to the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on July 31, 2026.<\/p>\n
Toronto Police continue to investigate the homicide and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.<\/p>\n
