Elon Musk sat down with The Economist last week and said something that most financial media has been covering as a technology story. It is also a Bitcoin story, and nobody has connected the two yet. <\/p>\n
Speaking <\/a>with the outlet, Musk said artificial intelligence will surpass the combined intelligence of all humans within approximately five years. By 2036, he added, humans<\/a> will almost certainly no longer be in control of the technology. <\/p>\n He put the extinction risk at 10 to 20 percent. His conclusion was not to slow down. “I can’t see any way to really stop this incredible momentum of AI and robots,” he said. <\/p>\n That last part is worth sitting with. <\/p>\n What happens to money in a world AI controls <\/p>\n Every financial system today was built around human decision-making. Systems requiring human oversight to function correctly are systems that can be manipulated or captured by whatever intelligence runs above them. <\/p>\n Why Bitcoin is built for exactly this scenario <\/p>\n Four things make Bitcoin structurally different from every other financial asset in an AI-controlled world. <\/p>\n Its 21 million coin cap is enforced by cryptographic consensus, not by any institution<\/a> an AI could capture. Its supply cannot be inflated, debased, or reprogrammed away. It settles transactions without human intermediaries, no banks, no clearinghouses, no central bank approval required. Its decentralized architecture means no single entity, human or artificial, can block or reverse a transaction. <\/p>\n And unlike gold, Bitcoin is machine-readable and machine-executable, the only scarce asset that can interact natively with AI-agent financial systems already being<\/a> built today. <\/p>\n Bitcoin has processed every transaction without a single day of downtime since January 2009. Not because humans maintained it. Because the protocol does not need them to. <\/p>\n
