Wout van Aert<\/a> won the first stage<\/a> of the Tour of Denmark<\/a> on Wednesday, meaning the Belgian will start Day 2 in the leader\u2019s jersey. Thursday\u2019s second stage begins in Glyng\u00f8re, the birthplace of Jonas Vingegaard<\/a>. The Danish rider will also make his first public appearance there since crashing out of the Tour de France.The second stage of his home race naturally starts in Glyng\u00f8re because of the town\u2019s connection to Vingegaard. The Visma | Lease a Bike<\/a> leader will be honoured there on Thursday for winning the Giro d\u2019Italia earlier this year. Vingegaard crashed on Stage 15 of the Tour de France and suffered a broken collarbone.<\/p>\n

\u201cJonas Vingegaard is not only one of the best cyclists in the world; he is also Glyng\u00f8re\u2019s great sporting hero. Having him appear at the start in his hometown and add extra prestige to our race is one of the moments we always look forward to at the Tour of Denmark. It is also our first opportunity to congratulate him on winning the Giro d\u2019Italia,\u201d event manager Klaus Falk Paarup said.<\/p>\n

After his crash, Vingegaard spoke to Danish broadcaster TV 2<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m doing surprisingly well. We approached a roundabout a little too fast, and suddenly my front wheel skidded. Maybe the motorcyclist made a mistake, but we can\u2019t blindly rely on the motorcycles. We have to make our own decisions. People make mistakes; there\u2019s nothing we can do about that now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Aert discusses Vingegaard\u2019s doping control on the night before Tour de France crash<\/p>\n

The fact that Vingegaard will welcome Van Aert\u2014the Belgian who was forced to miss the Tour de France because of injury\u2014as race leader in Glyng\u00f8re is naturally an added bonus for Visma | Lease a Bike. Van Aert and Vingegaard have not competed together on a single race day in 2026.<\/p>\n

While in Denmark, Van Aert also discussed the doping test Vingegaard received at 2 a.m., hours before he crashed during the stage to Plateau de Solaison. \u201cJonas was the only one tested at 2 a.m. No other rival was woken up at the same time,\u201d the Belgian explained to Het Nieuwsblad. <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThat affects the race no matter what, and for me that is absolutely unacceptable. There simply needs to be a clear and consistent policy. One rider was singled out and\u2014however you look at it\u2014had his night\u2019s sleep interrupted. That had an impact on the race,\u201d Van Aert said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clear that it didn\u2019t do any good\u2014you can certainly say that,\u201d Vingegaard himself said after the crash. \u201cWhether it was the reason, I don\u2019t dare speculate. It\u2019s quite possible that it did have an impact.
