{"id":835793,"date":"2026-07-30T11:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T11:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/835793\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T11:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T11:48:08","slug":"pga-tour-winner-hit-with-six-month-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/835793\/","title":{"rendered":"PGA Tour winner hit with six-month ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tThe PGA Tour announced that it has suspended one of its players for violating its anti-doping rules.<\/p>\n<p>PGA Tour player Trey Mullinax has been handed a six-month suspension for breaching the circuit\u2019s anti-doping policy.<\/p>\n<p>Mullinax, a one-time tour winner, tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance that is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The 34-year-old said in a statement on Wednesday that he used medication to treat a condition he had been diagnosed with in college, but had not received approval under the tour\u2019s policy to take it. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/2026-pga-tour-schedule\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PGA Tour<\/a> said Mullinax co-operated fully with the investigation into his violation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take full responsibility for what happened,\u201d Mullinax wrote. \u201cAt the end of the day, it is my responsibility to understand and follow the PGA Tour\u2019s Anti-Doping Policy and all of its rules and regulations. I failed to do that, and that is on me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI recently used a medication to treat a condition I was originally diagnosed with in college without seeking approval under the Tour\u2019s Anti-Doping Policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy lack of knowledge is not an excuse. It was my responsibility to know the rules before taking any medication and I failed to do so. I want to be absolutely clear \u2013 I have never taken any substance with the intention of gaining a competitive advantage. Anyone who knows me knows how much I respect this game and the values it represents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mullinax, who won the Barbasol Championship in 2022, will be eligible to return in January 2027.
