The inaugural Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid is expected to deliver a substantially larger economic boost than originally projected, according to a new PwC study that estimates the event will generate \u20ac467 million in economic activity and support 8,850 jobs across the region.<\/p>\n
The report, commissioned during the event\u2019s implementation phase and based on actual sales and investment data, highlights the growing significance of Formula 1 as an economic driver for host cities. The analysis projects that the Madrid race will represent 5.7% of the direct gross value added generated by the region\u2019s recreational activities sector while also producing nearly \u20ac83 million in tax revenues and social security contributions.<\/p>\n
A major contributor to the forecast is the strong demand already generated by Formula 1\u2019s return to Spain. Organizers report that more than 120,000 grandstand and hospitality tickets have been sold ahead of the Sept. 11-13 event, with over 80,000 spectators expected to travel from outside Madrid, including approximately 45,000 international visitors.<\/p>\n
The tourism impact is expected to extend well beyond the circuit. Hospitality, transportation and retail sectors are projected to receive some of the largest benefits as race fans arrive from around the world. PwC estimates the event will contribute \u20ac59 million to hospitality, \u20ac22 million to transportation and \u20ac18 million to retail spending.<\/p>\n
The economic ripple effect also reaches industries less commonly associated with motorsports. Manufacturing, construction, professional services and information technology sectors are projected to generate significant business activity as part of the event\u2019s preparation and execution.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis analysis is particularly valuable because it is based on verified data rather than assumptions,\u201d said Jos\u00e9 Vicente de los Mozos, chairman of IFEMA Madrid\u2019s Executive Committee.<\/p>\n
Officials estimate that every euro directly linked to the Grand Prix will generate approximately \u20ac3.90 in broader economic activity throughout the region.<\/p>\n
The findings further underscore Formula 1\u2019s growing appeal among cities seeking major international events capable of producing tourism revenue, global exposure and long-term economic development. Madrid\u2019s race will mark Formula 1\u2019s debut at the new Madring circuit and represents one of the championship\u2019s most anticipated additions in recent years.<\/p>\n
