{"id":836700,"date":"2026-07-30T21:00:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T21:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/836700\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T21:00:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T21:00:12","slug":"andoni-iraola-offers-update-on-joe-gomez-injury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/836700\/","title":{"rendered":"Andoni Iraola offers update on Joe Gomez injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Gomez and Jeremy Jacquet absent from the squad \u2013 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolfc.com\/news\/inside-training-pre-season-day-one-cody-gakpo-and-virgil-van-dijk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Virgil van Dijk beginning pre-season training back in Liverpool this week<\/a> following World Cup commitments \u2013 Liverpool started Wednesday\u2019s clash with Wrexham in New York with a centre-back pairing of Luke Chambers and Ifeanyi Ndukwe.<\/p>\n<p>Mor Talla Ndiaye was also utilised in the position during the second half of the 1-0 win at Yankee Stadium \u2013 and while Iraola acknowledges the squad is \u2018pretty thin\u2019 in that area at the moment, he was keen to highlight the positive performances of the youngsters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have seen these games, we are pretty thin in the centre-back position,\u201d he said. \u201cWe still don\u2019t have Virgil. The only real centre-backs we have right now are Mor and Ify, that are 18 years old, just arrived to the club and they are doing incredibly well. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday Luke Chambers played there, he is not a centre-back but he played really, really well.
