{"id":836801,"date":"2026-07-30T21:59:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T21:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/836801\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T21:59:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T21:59:12","slug":"wrc-finland-adrien-fourmaux-heads-early-hyundai-1-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/836801\/","title":{"rendered":"WRC Finland: Adrien Fourmaux heads early Hyundai 1-2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/adrien-fourmaux\/841702\/\" data-entitylink-text=\"Adrien Fourmaux\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adrien Fourmaux<\/a> grabbed the early Rally Finland lead after blitzing the opening stage of the famous fast-gravel WRC event\u2019s 75th-anniversary edition.<\/p>\n<p>The Hyundai driver made light work of the technical Harju super special stage to post a time 1.1 seconds faster than team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/thierry-neuville\/14925\/\" data-entitylink-text=\"Thierry Neuville\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thierry Neuville<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really tried to optimise everything. I remember last year that the gaps were so tight in the long stages and we were losing more in the short stages. I tried,\u201d said Fourmaux. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neuville is yet to conquer Rally Finland but the 2024 world champion reported a good feeling behind the wheel of his Hyundai i20 N Rally1, and is expecting this year\u2019s rally to be the fastest ever.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;l&#8217;m always hungry. It is not an easy one to win. Let&#8217;s try. We are going to find out. The feeling is good in the car. Ogier was partnered by Julien Ingrassia, who is making his first WRC start since 2021 after accepting a last-minute call to stand in for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/vincent-landais\/314492\/\" data-entitylink-text=\"Vincent Landais\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vincent Landais<\/a>, who is absent from the event due to personal reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m pleased that Julien is there with me for one more time, but all week we will have Vincent [Landais] in the car with us. We will try our best,&#8221; said Ogier.<\/p>\n<p>Championship leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/elfyn-evans\/18035\/\" data-entitylink-text=\"Elfyn Evans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elfyn Evans<\/a> matched Ogier\u2019s time as the Toyota team-mate could not be split across the test. Toyota\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/takamoto-katsuta\/408637\/\" data-entitylink-text=\"Takamoto Katsuta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Takamoto Katsuta<\/a> was fifth quickest, 1.8sec adrift of the outright pace. The Japanese driver, sitting second in the championship, was 0.1sec faster than Sami Pajari, who claimed a maiden WRC win last time out in Estonia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is always a tricky stage. It is a really special one to drive. I tried to make a good time, but it is not so easy. The Finn is determined to serve up a better showing than what he produced in Estonia revealing that he has undergone extra preparation for his home round.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with the laptop, it is the hardest I have prepared for this rally. It has been a few hours watching videos for sure.
