<\/p>\nSeven weeks are done and in the books, and we are now entering the heart of the season, the middle seven weeks. The middle part of the season started with Week 8 and will come to an end with the CFL’s Labour Day Weekend in Week 14. These next seven weeks will determine who as a good chance at the playoffs, at home field in the Semifinals, and first place in the divisions.<\/p>\n
Speaking of divisions, Week 8 began in Regina with a West Division battle between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Elks, with the Riders mourning the loss of one of their players, Jayden Dalke, who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on July 18. It was an emotional evening for the defending champs, but they hung in with the Elks in this back-and-forth battle that saw a lot of scoring. Ironically, the Elks won it with a last second field goal, a 36-34 final score in favor of Edmonton over Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n
Next up was another West Division battle, this one between the Calgary Stampeders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Elks\/Riders contest saw 70 points scored. This game topped that with 82, and 52 of them belonged to Calgary. The Stamps absolutely tore the Bombers apart, and as a result, they move closer and closer in the West Division standings. The only other West team who had yet to play was the BC Lions, and they hosted the Toronto Argonauts in a Saturday game that the Argos needed. I knew we’d easily beat the Lions, and we did just that; 26-12, Lions had no chance, and the Boatmen got back on track.<\/p>\n
Week 8 ended with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Montr\u00e9al Alouettes battling it out in an East Division battle, which was part of a big night for the city of Montr\u00e9al. Not only did that CFL game take place there, but All Elite Wrestling was at the Bell Centre (the home of the NHL’s Canadiens) having their Redemption PPV event. Regarding the game, it was actually close; Hamilton was up by one, but the Als killed any chances of Hamilton winning this one with a big fourth quarter. The result was a 31-18 victory for the home Alouettes, who increased their hold on the East Division.<\/p>\n

Here’s how things look after 8 weeks. The Edmonton Elks still lead the West Division at 6-1, they look really good and have a great chance at the playoffs at least. The Saskatchewan Roughriders drop to 4-2 with their loss, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers dropped to 4-3, and the Calgary Stampeders are now 3-4. As for the British Columbia Lions, they are one-third through their season, and they still only have the one win. In the East, it looks like the Montr\u00e9al Alouettes have this division on lockdown. For the Argos, finishing in third will be no problem, but we need to try to at least get second. Right now, the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are both 3-4, but the Cats have the head-to-head edge at the moment. As for the Redblacks, well, it’s a season for them so far.<\/p>\n
Week 9 will kick off with a Western battle between the BC Lions and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday, July 30, and that will be followed by the winless Ottawa Redblacks hosting the Montr\u00e9al Alouettes on Friday, July 31. On Saturday, August 1, it’s a doubleheader, starting with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hosting the Calgary Stampeders, followed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Elks going at it again.<\/p>\n
