Warriors forward Moses Moody was on the golf course at Maumelle Country Club near his native Little Rock, Arkansas, when he learned LeBron James signed with the 76ers last Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting it,\u201d Moody told the Bay Area News Group by phone Monday. \u201cI kind of thought it was going to be between us and Cleveland, so that one was kind of out of left field.\u201d<\/p>\n
While he was surprised by his fellow Klutch Sports Group client’s decision, Moody preached patience to Warriors fans fretting about their own team’s inactivity this offseason.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re all on the same side, on the same team,\u201d Moody said. \u201cIt\u2019s trusting all of the leadership, trusting those in the positions to make those decisions, because they\u2019re there for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n
He did not spend much time dwelling on James\u2019 seismic shift to the Eastern Conference, though, because his packed schedule left little room for thinking about hypotheticals.<\/p>\n
Moody and teammate Steph Curry had a speaking engagement later that day at Little Rock\u2019s Statehouse Convention Center as part of Moody\u2019s Motivate One Foundation youth summer camp.<\/p>\n
He grew up in Arkansas, and after attending Montverde Academy in Orlando, Florida, for high school, he spent a season back at the University of Arkansas before being drafted by the Warriors in 2021.<\/p>\n
Since turning pro, Moody has made it a point to return to his hometown during the summers.<\/p>\n
Not even a severe patellar injury suffered in March that limited Moody\u2019s mobility and is expected to keep him from playing for much of next season would stop him from hosting his annual camp aimed at uplifting young people and supporting those in need in Little Rock.<\/p>\n
Speaking while riding an exercise bike, Moody told the Bay Area News Group that he is \u201con my daily grind of it all\u201d and that \u201ceverything\u2019s on track\u201d for him to eventually return to the court.<\/p>\n
Along with Curry, Moody\u2019s fellow Arkansans Isaiah Joe and golfer John Daly II also took part in the week\u2019s events.<\/p>\n
They shared a similar message with the kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou never know which one of these kids will be in a position to help, although I guess everybody is always in a position to help someone,\u201d Moody said. \u201cSo coming and seeing an event like this can show them what it looks like, and they can have a blueprint for them to do the same thing when they get older. When you\u2019re a recipient of it, it makes you just that much more likely to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Moody\u2019s foundation estimated that about 1,500 people participated in the week\u2019s various events. It began with Moody helping distribute food and other household supplies to about 3,000 local families.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people showed up to the event, which made it a good event, but at the same time, that means a lot of people are in need of food,\u201d Moody said. \u201cSo I just tried to serve the community wherever they are.\u201d<\/p>\n
There were also basketball and golf camps, where Curry worked alongside Moody to give campers an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cSteph was here, and he did more than just show up,\u201d Moody said. \u201cHe was attentive, active, special as he does everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
After Draymond Green was the featured guest last summer, Curry looked forward to making his first visit to Moody\u2019s hometown.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wouldn\u2019t have it any other way than having Moses (show us around); he\u2019s a great tour guide,\u201d Curry told Fox 16 in Arkansas. \u201cYou feel the energy here, and it\u2019s awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along the way, Curry made a great impression on more than just his teammate and the children.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people feel like they know Steph and they think he\u2019s an amazing person,\u201d Rona Moody, Moses\u2019 mother, said at one of the events. \u201cI promise you, and I\u2019ve got to tell you from my experience in getting to know him, he\u2019s so much better than you even think he is. And I\u2019m coming from a mother\u2019s heart, this is true. Thank you for coming to be here with us. That means everything to us, and we appreciate it.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the summer series over, Moody is in no hurry to return to the Bay Area. He plans to stay in Little Rock a little while longer before going on a family vacation.<\/p>\n
