Marie Police are reminding residents to be bear wise after having a close encounter earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>A black bear climbed up a utility pole outside the Police Services Building on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Officers monitored the furry visitor from a safe distance.<\/p>\n<p>Once the bear made its way back down to the ground, it was given an escort back to\u00a0the woods.<\/p>\n<p>No people or bears were injured.<\/p>\n<p>Non-emergency bear encounters can be reported by calling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sootoday.com\/city-police-beat\/tel:1-866-514-2327\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1-866-514-2327<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If there&#8217;s an immediate threat to the public, call 911.<\/p>\n<p>Ontario&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/prevent-bear-encounters-bear-wise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bear Wise program<\/a> provides information on preventing conflicts with black bears, staying safe, and what to do if you encounter one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sault Ste.
