{"id":838652,"date":"2026-07-31T18:00:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T18:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/838652\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T18:00:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T18:00:09","slug":"legionnaires-disease-outbreak-in-nyc-is-declared-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/838652\/","title":{"rendered":"Legionnaires\u2019 disease outbreak in NYC is declared over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">An outbreak of Legionnaires\u2019 disease in New York City that led to seven deaths and 84 people hospitalized has ended, the New York City Department of Health announced in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/about\/press\/pr2026\/health-department-declares-ues-legionnaires-exposure-has-ended.page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement <\/a>on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The city noted that the two week incubation period for any new cases has passed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAll New Yorkers deserve a government that responds quickly, acts transparently, and never hesitates to protect public health,\u201d said Dr. Alister Martin, NYC Health Commissioner, in the statement.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/PMBECEB2IBDSJAM3YPEY325STQ.JPG\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>Alister Martin New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin speaks at a town hall concerning the Legionnaires&#8217; disease cluster on July 7 in New York. More than 180 cooling towers were tested. Ultimately, towers for 83 buildings tested positive for Legionella bacteria, and their owners were ordered to drain, clean and disinfect them.
