A Brampton truck driver accused of attempting to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into Canada through the Blue Water Bridge has been found not guilty.<\/p>\n
According to the Sarnia Observer, Justice Mark Poland acquitted 24-year-old Ravinderbir Singh on July 30 of charges of importing cocaine and possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking following a judge-alone trial.<\/p>\n
The charges stemmed from a March 2025 border inspection in which Canada Border Services Agency officers discovered 281 one-kilogram bricks of cocaine concealed inside a commercial trailer carrying plastic resin. Authorities estimated the seizure at approximately 333 kilograms of cocaine, with a reported value ranging from several million dollars to more than $30 million depending on the method of valuation.<\/p>\n
Singh, of Brampton, was arrested after officers inspected the transport truck at the Blue Water Bridge crossing between Port Huron, Michigan, and Sarnia.<\/p>\n
At the time, the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency described the seizure as part of a series of major drug interceptions at Ontario border crossings. Police alleged Singh intended to traffic the drugs after they entered Canada.<\/p>\n
According to the Observer, the Crown argued Singh must have known the cocaine was hidden in the trailer, while the defence maintained he was an unwitting courier who had no knowledge the drugs had been concealed among the cargo before he picked up the load.<\/p>\n
In delivering his decision, Justice Poland found the Crown had not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Singh knew the cocaine was in the trailer. The judge also rejected several key arguments advanced by prosecutors, including claims that adjustments Singh made to the trailer and his interactions with border officers demonstrated knowledge of the drugs, the Observer reported.<\/p>\n
The case attracted significant attention because of the size of the seizure and the potential penalties Singh faced if convicted.<\/p>\n
The acquittal applies only to Singh. In November 2025, two Brampton men connected to the trucking company involved in the shipment were separately charged with conspiracy and possessing property obtained by crime in connection with the same investigation. Their cases remain before the courts, and the allegations against them have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n
The Crown has 30 days to decide whether to appeal the acquittal.<\/p>\n
