Earlier this year, Prime Video<\/a> made a major change to its subscription plans. The streaming platform confirmed that its Prime Video Ad Free plan was being phased out to introduce Prime Video Ultra.<\/p>\n

It announced the changes in March, with the changes taking effect the following month. Starting Apr. 10, Prime Video Ad Free was replaced by Ultra<\/a>, and subscriptions automatically renew each month until canceled.<\/p>\n

On July 28, Prime Video subscribers received another email reminding them of the changes, which have been in effect for a few months.<\/p>\n

The new plan change didn’t come without changes. Of course, since the main attraction of the Ad Free plan was no interruptions, Ultra kept the same perks and more.<\/p>\n

Other features include better quality throughout, as Ultra automatically comes with 4K UHD video, with stunning clarity, and immersive sound thanks to Dolby Atmos.<\/p>\n

Another perk is that Ad Free used to offer 25 offline downloads for licensed content, while the Ultra plan increased that limit to 100.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the biggest change is that Prime Video hasn’t started a password crackdown like HBO Max<\/a>, Netflix, and Disney+. Instead, Ultra offers five concurrent streams, which is up from the 3 offered on Ad Free.<\/p>\n

Among the most important changes was a price increase. The original Ad Free plan was $2 cheaper, and Ultra is now priced at $4.99. The Amazon-backed streaming service also offers an annual option for $45.99, which comes with 23% in savings.<\/p>\n

Prime Video Is Focusing on Fresh Original Content<\/p>\n

More than ten years since the streaming world took shape, the majority of big studios have created their own streaming platforms, with others having strong partnerships in place for first-window releases after a film’s theatrical window ends. Even with big names like Disney and Warner Bros., Netflix still dominates the game.<\/p>\n

However, Prime Video has shown it’s a worthy competitor. Amazon MGM Studios is now producing movies that gross hundreds of thousands of dollars, with Project Hail Mary as the most notable<\/a> example<\/a>. At the same time, it has tapped into one of the most underrated markets of all time: book readers.<\/p>\n

Prime Video has an excellent portfolio of adaptations, ranging across multiple genres. Whether it’s action, with hit shows like Reacher, Bosch, and Jack Ryan, comic book adaptations like The Boys and Invincible, fantasy like The Wheel of Time, mysteries like We Were Liars, and YA\/ rom-coms like The Summer I Turned Pretty, Off Campus, and Every Year After, the Amazon platform has highlighted that it understands its audience.<\/p>\n

The adaptations are widely praised, becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Off Campus scored Prime Video’s third-best release ever in just 12 days, logging 36 million viewers worldwide. It has been topping the charts ever since.<\/p>\n

Prime Video is also preparing more adaptations based on bestselling novels, with Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, and another adaptation, Love, Theoretically, confirmed after the enthusiastic response to The Love Hypothesis<\/a>‘ first teaser<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While novel adaptations are extremely successful, Prime Video proved it just gets adaptations in general. The platform is the home of Fallout, the hit series based on the video game of the same name. It’s preparing a new adaptation of God of War, among many others.<\/p>\n
