Para-cyclist Devon Briggs has won a gold medal for New Zealand, and set a new Commonwealth Games record in the process.<\/p>\n
Briggs has taken first place in the 1km C1-3 time trial final in Glasgow.<\/p>\n
Earlier, cyclist Ellese Andrews was taken out of the medal race in the individual sprint.<\/p>\n
The Olympic champion was beaten in consecutive races in a best-of-three quarter-final against Welsh rider Emma Finucane.<\/p>\n
Andrews was also part of the New Zealand sprint team that was bundled out during qualifying on Friday.<\/p>\n
Rebecca Petch and Olivia King both were unable to get past the round-of-16 stage in their respective sprints.<\/p>\n
On the endurance side, Bryony Botha has been given a second life in the 4000m individual pursuit following the disqualification of two Australian riders, and will now line up for bronze later Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
Botha initially failed to qualify, placing fifth, as did team-mate Emily Shearman, who finished eighth.<\/p>\n
However, officials said Australian Felicity Wilson-Haffenden, who originally finished fourth, broke protocols due to strapping on her shoulder that “altered her morphology”.<\/p>\n
Fellow Australian rider Sophie Edwards was also disqualified due to a non-compliant helmet.<\/p>\n
Botha will face Scotland’s Erin Boothman for bronze from 3.30am NZT.<\/p>\n
On the men’s side, Marshall Erwood, Daniel Morton and Tom Sexton all failed to qualify for the next stage of the individual pursuit.<\/p>\n
