Diallo and Galarneau both spoke about taking inspiration from Auger-Aliassime’s rise to no. 4 in the world and how’s he helped them navigate the sometimes rough waters of life on the pro tour.

“Félix (Auger-Aliassime) really helped me when I was making the transition from university to the pros,” Diallo said. “He always told me that a career has highs and lows, that having balance between your personal life and your tennis is important. He’s someone who emphasizes the process and keeps his sights on his long-term vision.”

Galarneau feels like he’s better equipped to handle everything that comes with playing at home. He’s focused on his preparation, applying his gameplan for his first-round match against Vit Kopriva, and applying the tools he’s put in place to be successful.

For his part, Auger-Aliassime is full of admiration for his two compatriots because of their resilience and commitment to their craft.

“Everyone has their own path, and you have to respect and give credit where credit is due. Everyone has their challenges and their own story,” Auger-Aliassime said.

A Perfectly-Timed Doubles Debut

Auger-Aliassime and Diallo will team up in doubles for the first time in Montreal after being awarded a wild card into the draw. For both, the occasion will be a childhood dream realized and a special moment that they hope is not a one-time thing.

Diallo, who was coached by Auger-Aliassime’s dad, Sam when he was young, claims they asked each other at the same time to play together at the NBO then Félix asked Tournament Director Valérie Tétreault for a wild card. Of course, she granted them their request with an emphatic yes.

The goal is for their performance in Montreal to be an audition for Canada’s Davis Cup tie against France in Quebec City this September. The second goal is to savour every moment they have at home, both on and off the court.
