{"id":84183,"date":"2025-08-20T17:27:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T17:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/84183\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T17:27:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T17:27:08","slug":"trump-slaps-sanctions-on-canadian-judge-on-international-criminal-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/84183\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump slaps sanctions on Canadian judge on International Criminal Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The Trump administration slapped a Canadian judge on the International Criminal Court with sanctions as the U.S. State Department continues to push back on the tribunal.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The State Department says Kimberly Prost of Canada was sanctioned for ruling to authorize the ICC&#8217;s investigation into U.S. personnel in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other ICC members from France, Fiji and Senegal\u00a0were also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2025\/08\/imposing-further-sanctions-in-response-to-the-iccs-ongoing-threat-to-americans-and-israelis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sanctioned by\u00a0the State Department<\/a>, linked to the tribunal&#8217;s investigation into Israel&#8217;s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Prost joins a growing list of ICC judges that have been hit with similar actions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The State Department alleges the international court is a &#8220;a national security threat that has been an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The ICC previously condemned the actions of the Trump administration, calling it an attempt to undermine the independence of an international judicial institution.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A building is shown from the outside.
