{"id":842573,"date":"2026-08-02T14:48:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T14:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/842573\/"},"modified":"2026-08-02T14:48:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T14:48:09","slug":"surrey-community-groups-invited-to-apply-for-climate-change-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/842573\/","title":{"rendered":"Surrey community groups invited to apply for climate change fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Community groups in Surrey are being invited to apply for a share of \u00a3125,000 for projects that will help tackle the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Surrey County Council (SCC) says that town and parish councils, community, voluntary and faith groups are able to apply for individual grants capped at \u00a316,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The new Community Resilience Grant has been designed to help residents who are confronted with increasing risks from extreme heat, flooding, and wildfires, the council says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Marisa Heath, cabinet member for environment &amp; planning said, &#8220;We&#8217;re acutely aware that many of the UK&#8217;s community spaces were not built to withstand some of the conditions we are now experiencing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">SCC said it will work in partnership with Surrey Fire and Rescue Service SFRS to support local groups and help deliver the projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">SFRS area commander David Nolan said: &#8220;We&#8217;re proud to be working with Surrey County Council to support local groups making a difference across Surrey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">There are two stages for the grants, with deadlines set for 16 and 30 September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Follow BBC Surrey on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BBCSurrey\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook, external<\/a>, on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BBCSurrey\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">X, external<\/a>.
