Marathe was \u201creportedly a candidate to be the next commissioner\u201d of MLS but \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/07\/30\/sources-mls-owners-to-vote-monday-in-ny-on-next-commissioner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/07\/30\/sources-mls-owners-to-vote-monday-in-ny-on-next-commissioner\/\">withdrew his name from consideration<\/a> shortly after his candidacy was made public this summer\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/sports\/49ers\/article\/longtime-49ers-official-paraag-marathe-leave-22370005.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">S.F.
