Rumors of\u00a0Alien: Romulus<\/a>\u00a0not getting a follow up have been greatly exaggerated.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, outlet World of Reel<\/a> alleged that the unannounced sequel had been \u201cindefinitely shelved,\u201d bordering on \u201cmay not ever happen.\u201d The website cited several reasons for this, including David Jonsson recently landing\u00a0Black Panther 3<\/a>\u00a0and his\u00a0Romulus\u00a0costar Cailee Spaeny rumored for X-Men. But the biggest obstacle was allegedly Ridley Scott<\/a>: returning in a producer role, he was said to be too hands on, since this sequel will bring back David, the android played by Michael Fassbender last seen in 2017\u2019s\u00a0Alien: Covenant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

World of Reel claimed Fassbender \u201cpractically signed on,\u201d but Scott refused to let the actor join the project, despite its completed script. This standstill then sent Alien: Romulus\u00a0director\/co-writer Fede \u00c1lvarez\u2014who isn\u2019t directing<\/a> this next movie, but wrote and produced it\u2014\u201dinto a tailspin\u201d and to leave the sequel entirely. \u201cCurrently no path forward for the sequel,\u201d said the outlet, whose story subsequently went viral and sent Alien\u00a0fans into despair.<\/p>\n

And then came 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell<\/a>, using X to dispute the story with one simple word: \u201cNope.\u201d That\u2019s currently the final word on the matter, at least from the studio. World of Reel, meanwhile, has yet to update or correct its initial reporting at time of writing.<\/p>\n

News on the Romulus sequel been nonexistent, save for \u00c1lvarez stating in 2025 that filming would begin that October. In this day and age, months of silence can be equivalent to a quiet death for movies or other projects, not helped by Disney being in a cancelling mood<\/a> lately. Even so, Asbell\u2019s declaration that the story of Alien: Romulus\u00a0will continue has fans hopeful. Now, it\u2019s just a matter of being patient for more news.<\/p>\n
