Karisma Kapoor\u2019s ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, a well-known business tycoon and chairman of mobility giant Sona Comstar, died of cardiac arrest in June at just 53. His death has since led to legal wrangles and claims over the family-run empire. But in the middle of boardroom battles and inheritance disputes, his sister, Mandhira Kapur, has revealed how her mother was made to sign legal papers by several people, including Sunjay\u2019s wife, Priya Sachdev.<\/p>\n
Mandhira told Republic, \u201cWhat papers are they not showing us that they\u2019d gotten signed in this 13-day period that they\u2019ve taken over? My mother was made to sign papers behind locked doors. And this wasn\u2019t once, but twice.” She added, \u201cI was standing at the door banging on it. She was grieving.”<\/p>\n
Mandhira said, \u201cThere were two doors, actually \u2014 a door inside and a door outside. So she couldn\u2019t hear me. The bottom line is she signed some papers during the mourning period. She was in deep grief. She came to me and said, \u2018I don\u2019t know what papers I\u2019ve signed. And since then, we\u2019ve been asking and getting no response. So, what are you hiding from us? I think this will all unfold at some point, and the truth will come out.”<\/p>\n
While Mandhira hasn\u2019t spoken to Priya, she said that her mother reached out and demanded to see the papers. While Priya promised to send them over, the mother and daughter have yet to receive them. \u201cWe\u2019ve written to the people asking them (for the papers), and we\u2019ve been told her email is compromised. So we can\u2019t send her anything,” claimed Mandhira. Priya is currently the Non-Executive Director of Sona Comstar.<\/p>\n
While Mandhira and Sunjay were estranged, she has now come to help her mother. \u201cWe had a fight between a brother and a sister. But it doesn\u2019t take away the 40+ years before that. It doesn\u2019t take away from the fact that I\u2019m Dr. Kapur\u2019s daughter. Why wouldn\u2019t I fight for my mother? Who\u2019s everyone else who\u2019s coming in and claiming anything?” said Mandhira.<\/p>\n
She also denied speculation that she only returned to stake a claim in her brother\u2019s inheritance, as her own business is suffering. \u201cWho once said my business isn\u2019t doing well? This is the beauty of this entire thing unfolding \u2014 I get told a new thing every day. I\u2019m not fighting for inheritance, but for legacy. When you\u2019ve built something, you know its value. When you\u2019re standing on the outside, you only see the money value. We have an emotional attachment to this brand,” Mandhira concluded.<\/p>\n
