Samantha Morton revealed she hasn\u2019t worked since wrapping Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d despite delivering one of the film\u2019s most talked-about performances.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on Josh Horowitz\u2019s \u201cHappy Sad Confused\u201d podcast on Monday, the actress, who plays Greek sorceress Circe opposite Matt Damon\u2019s Odysseus<\/a>, reflected on the politics of the industry and how it has changed in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cHope and faith,\u201d Morton said when asked what the recent critical acclaim has meant to her. \u201cThat I suppose if you keep at it, and you keep producing good work, and that the right people see it, then maybe you can carry on working.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI haven\u2019t worked for a year since making \u2018The Odyssey,\u2019 you know, and I\u2019ve got really good agents and a manager, but at the end of the day, I\u2019m 49. I do believe I\u2019m a good actor, [but] there are other good actors out there. Do you know what I mean? So, the politics of the industry has changed massively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Morton shared that she felt confident that she\u2019ll continue working well into her 80s. Though, elsewhere in the interview, Morton admitted she \u201ccried\u201d upon learning Nolan wanted to meet with her for \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d \u2013 having previously missed out on a chance to be in his 2006 film, \u201cThe Prestige.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that life and art have a really bizarre way of intertwining and what\u2019s for you won\u2019t pass you,\u201d she added. \u201cBut sometimes it\u2019s hard to know that in the time, because there have been times when things haven\u2019t worked out and I\u2019ve been very sad both creatively and financially because I have three children and a mortgage and [a] life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, Morton stood by the idea that \u201cif you are earnest\u201d and \u201chave dignity and compassion\u201d that success will follow. However, she encouraged others to \u201ccherish\u201d these moments forever, as \u201cthey\u2019re few and far between.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Morton has emerged as one of the stand-out performers from the stacked ensemble cast <\/a>of \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d garnering early awards season buzz for only about 10 minutes of screentime.<\/p>\n

Outside of her work in \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d Morton is best known for her work in independent films, including Woody Allen\u2019s \u201cSweet and Lowdown\u201d and Jim Sheridan\u2019s \u201cIn America,\u201d which earned her Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress\u00a0and\u00a0Best Actress, respectively. She\u2019s also known for her performances in 2002\u2019s \u201cMinority Report,\u201d 2016\u2019s \u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,\u201d AMC\u2019s \u201cThe Walking Dead\u201d and Starz\u2019s \u201cThe Serpent Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morton is set next to appear in Lisa Mulcahy\u2019s \u201cLove and War,\u201d according to her IMDb.<\/p>\n
