{"id":846017,"date":"2026-08-04T18:02:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T18:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/846017\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T18:02:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T18:02:11","slug":"update-quilpituk-creek-wildfire-grows-to-742-hectares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/846017\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATE: Quilpituk Creek wildfire grows to 742 hectares"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>              UPDATE: Quilpituk Creek wildfire grows to 742 hectares<\/p>\n<p class=\"pubStamp\">Published 5:51 am Tuesday, August 4, 2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">\n                    By Jordy Cunningham\/West K News\n                                      <\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Quilpituk Creek wildfire is now estimated to be 742 hectares. <\/p>\n<p>There has been no change to evacuation orders or alerts. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStructure protection crews, along with Fire Department crews worked throughout the night,\u201d said BCWS. \u201cStructure protection and structural defence will continue to be on site today extinguishing hotspots along the community of La Casa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, crews are also going to continue with danger tree assessment along the east side of the fire, establishing a 10 foot edge on the fire perimeter.<\/p>\n<p>At the northern flank, fire and heavy equipment crews are progressing west, conducting danger tree assessment and extending their hoselay as they use direct suppression on the fire\u2019s edge.<\/p>\n<p>Along the south and west flanks of the blaze, heavy equipment continues to establish a fuel free hand guard and are working slope as far as they can. <\/p>\n<p>Aerial support continues to bucket the blaze while BCWS and Central Okanagan fire crews are also receiving support for the Joe Rich and Summerland fire departments.<\/p>\n<p>ORIGINAL<\/p>\n<p>The Quilpituk Creek wildfire along Westside Road continues to burn on Tuesday morning, Aug. 4.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the blaze experienced significant growth, said BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) on Monday night. BCWS, along with crews from all Central Okanagan fire departments, has been battling the blaze, which currently sits at an estimated 565 hectares in size.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the night and into Tuesday morning, BCWS\u2019s night vision systems worked to continue to tank hot spots, cool more active sections of the fire, and minimize further spread. Structure protection crews also remain on scene.<\/p>\n<p>The growth observed on Monday was to the northwest, upslope, and away from community areas. Fire crews worked to create a 10-foot edge on the eastern flank, also working to assess danger trees and continue falling work.<\/p>\n<p>All evacuation alerts and orders issued as a result of the fire remain in place.
