{"id":846118,"date":"2026-08-04T20:00:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T20:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/846118\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T20:00:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T20:00:17","slug":"massive-b-c-music-festival-leads-to-hundreds-of-tickets-for-irresponsible-drivers-daily-hive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/846118\/","title":{"rendered":"Massive B.C. music festival leads to hundreds of tickets for &#8216;irresponsible&#8217; drivers | Daily Hive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of B.C.\u2019s most popular music festivals recently wrapped up its 27th year, and many of the attendees had some trouble getting home after drivers ran afoul of the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP).<\/p>\n<p>The BC RCMP division announced its enforcement results after the Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo River Ranch, revealing that \u201ctoo many electronic music fans are still choosing to drive while impaired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Up to 50,000 people attended this year\u2019s Shambhala from July 24 to 27, featuring some of the biggest names in electronic music.<\/p>\n<p>However, hundreds of festival-goers started off the weekend with some expensive driving violations.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Shambhala\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"wp-image-2111930 size-large\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Shambhala-1024x683.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2111930\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shambhala<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/rcmp.ca\/en\/bc\/traffic-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BCHP<\/a>, 311 speeding tickets and seven excessive speeding tickets were issued, with the latter including fines ranging from $368 to $483.<\/p>\n<p>Ten tickets for occupant restraint\/seatbelts, two tickets for using an electronic device while driving, and one for driving without due care and attention were also issued, costing hundreds of dollars each.<\/p>\n<p>And 11 drivers were also ticketed for driving without insurance, facing a fine of $598.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"drivers\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2299451\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/drivers-1024x682.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2299451\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BC Highway Patrol<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s concerning that so many people were driving with no insurance,\u201d said Sgt. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol (BCHP).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s particularly concerning combined with the high number of speeders. It shows a level of irresponsible decision-making, and we\u2019d like to see safer behaviour on the roads that we all share.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just days later, at the end of the festival, two <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/news\/category\/crime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">police<\/a> roadblocks were set up to check people leaving Shambhala. That led to dozens of vehicles being towed and over 50 driving suspensions issued.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"drivers\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"wp-image-2135929 size-large\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Overpass--1024x683.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2135929\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BC Highway Patrol\/X<\/p>\n<p>They included:<\/p>\n<p>57 vehicles towed for mechanical safety or driver impairment<br \/>\n51 24-hour driving suspensions for drug impairment<br \/>\n50 violation tickets for a variety of BC MVA offences<br \/>\n8 vehicles immediately taken off the road due to major mechanical defects<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe asked people before the event to make sure they allowed drugs to clear their system before driving, but too many ignored that advice,\u201d added Sgt.
